I uninstalled the demo, Verified install files for game, then restarted pc and one of those fixed it for me.

There is no reason you should need to restart your computer to make a launcher update. The launcher fails to update for me no matter what I do. Guess I won't be playing this, which is a little disappointing.

Have the same problem

Make sure the launcher is an allowed program through any anti-virus you use by allowing it as an exception. Issues with saving and updating are often caused by this.

Same problem in linux (ubuntu 24.04)

On Steam I experience the same for this game. When I try the game's own launcher the game wont let me signin with any method. This game hates users and potentially money xD

hey guys, if u have any anti virus, like vanguard (LoL or Valorant anti cheat), finish this and try launch SoC again

I use BitDefender and adding an exemption just by locating the shortcut worked.

Adding an exception in your antivirus and allowing the game through your firewall will typically fix most launcher issues regardless of the game. I actually thought this was common knowledge.
I had this problem then i turned on a vpn and it went away so it might be a problem with you router provider

"Failed to check launcher" error means the launcher client is outdated.
You can either:
[1] Update it via Steam when the game is prompted for update (or you can try restart steam to kick-start it).
[2] Update it forcefully by running the launcher directly from the game's installed folder.

that is not necessarily true
i often got that same issue and it was only caused by the game server not responding.
i don't know the reason, i sometimes have the same problem with langrisser, so i assume it is because those servers are in asia.
rebooting my connection solves the problem everytime.

It's about the same due to the launcher is unable to check its own version due to your connection problem and SoC throws the same error everytime.

Haven't seen such problem on Langrisser during connection problem, as it simply ask for a restart or ask you to update if the launcher is outdated (plus, you don't really need to launch the game using the launcher on PC unless there's a client update), but for SoC it happened often during the game is doing client update and it throws the same launcher error if your launcher is outdated. Their launcher on Steam, unlike the official version, couldn't update itself during launch and rely on Steam's update to update itself. That's why running it stand-alone forced it to update the same way it updates itself on the official client. (Note: the reason behind that i can think of, is probably the bad file managing system... due to their launcher will tried to download the full 1.5gb update, then update again with a 1.5gb download when inside the game... wasting a total of 1.5gb data doing double download, especially when the steam update did another 1.5gb... it's a 4.5gb total download where normally 1.5gb is enough :steamfacepalm:)

Oh well, i got the same Issue with a Failed to check launcher: 403 (forbidden)
What I did:
-verified client
-restarted steam
-restarted PC
-added exception in antivirus
-added exception in firewall

guess it's not a game for me

Have you tried running the launcher directly from the game folder?
Have you tried using a vpn?
