Eldritch
pinned by lizard statue while crouching & stuck - so annoying!
Hi. Sorry if this is discussed elsewhere but I couldn't find it.

I hit a very frustrating bug that I saw someone else refer to on a website but can't remember which at the moment.
Love the game, but in world 2, I was having a great run, and hit the room with two lizard statues guarding a platform with some pickups on it. I crouched along the perimeter of the room and got the pickups. But on the way out I accidently lost sight of the lizard and he spawned behind me -- I tried to move, only to find that I was pinned in place. I couldn't kill it or blow up the tile I was on, and I didn't have the teleport spell. I was just stuck and he wasn't moving. I had to restart, and the next time around I found that lots of fountains were empty so I entered world 2 with about half as many hearts and less enthusiasm.

I just downloaded the steam version -- is the crouching bug fixed? I'm hesitant to give it a good shot if there's a chance I'll get pinned again. Also, are more fountains supposed to be empty on subsequent runs? Or is it just randomly generated and you are liable to get a run with only a few full fountains?

Thanks

Yea, I've been pinned by statues a couple times too. Not sure what to do about it if you cannot teleport or dig with a destruction amulet. :( I actually haven't tested recently though -- could be fixed. (BTW, you may have read about the bug in my guide)

The main goal with statues is don't let them tag you if you can help it. It's worth noting that they're deaf and sneaking probably does not affect their vision range at all, so if it makes it easier to maneuver, you can skip stealth. They're also blind behind and to the sides until they're awake; then their sight range and radius increases (360 degree vision, and a decently long range). I think my guide lists the actual values, which the dev kindly provided. Cloaking spell is a fine way to zip past them in a pinch.

Full vs empty fountains is entirely random. So no worries there.
Thanks for the help. Is your guide here on steam?
So you're saying I don't have to crouch? But if you move too quickly don't they start to 'crumble'? Or will they not actually come alive unless you look away?
Appreciated.
Okay, this time around I just stayed away from them and placed blocks when needed. Didn't need to crouch, even in the hallway at the end of book 2. Not sure how much the stealth boots make a difference but I used them.

Stealth boots reduce sound, so no help with statues; however, they're very useful against other creatures like shuggoths so they make a very good pick anyway.

I don't think statues care about how fast you're moving. Someone may be able to correct me if I'm wrong here, but sprinting past a statue doesn't matter so long as you don't enter its cone of vision too closely (and it's not awake).

My guide is here on Steam -- from the forums, click the Guides tab. here is a quick link to save you time though. :D

Enjoy!
