Hard to explain but because the L2 and R2 buttons on the PS5 are context sensitive(haptic feedback I think they called it), they register quarter presses, half presses etc. It's not performing the rope momentum TR4 wants unless you do a full press.
I can do what I want, it just doesn't work. I've been trying for an hour now and nothing works. I'm slowly getting desperate. Lara either holds on or crashes - but a long jump just won't work.
Edit: Can someone reading this please check with tank controls? It can't be... Or am I really stupid? A long jump like the one in this video is impossible for me, no matter what I do. It used to be possible.

Side down to end of rope, wait til she starts swinging backwards, then press sprint, keep swinging til you get a lot of momentum, press jump while she is still moving forward with the rope, before her momentum stalls and she swings back again.
It's not altogether consistent from what I've seen but that should work.
Hi, yesterday I did swinging with the rope without any problems (with the tank controls), today it doesn't work (same rope). It seems that suddenly the sprint button, which swings the rope, does not work.
I had to switch to modern controls and with that I managed the jump without any problems. Has there been any update or patch since yesterday?
Takes some practice and it doesn't always 100% work but it works often enough that it can be reliably replicated when you need it.
Best done from the bottom of the rope though since that gives you the best range to jump off.
I agree with you, it's a shame.
Can't speak for the modern controls at all, only tried them in the first remastered collection and I really didn't like them.
