After launch on Feb 14th 2024:
Patch 1: March 12th
Patch 2: April 11th
Patch 3: June 6th
Patch 4: November 4th
That's 9 months for 4 patches. Not every few days, and stuff like TR3's flat as hell lighting (especially in London) wasn't largely fixed until the very last patch.
The whole entire first month people were complaining about key items being near invisible against texture floor (notably The Cistern), opaque water textures and opaque pitch black rooms from a distance preventing from seeing through at a distance, and All Hallows was inaccessible after a 100% secrets playthrough of TR3. Among other things. These were way bigger problems and likely way quicker to fix than half-baked/unfinished textures and models.
There is no "Aww, come on, don't leave us hanging like that."even more because I explained.
To say "some classoc textures" is to neglet everything tbh, when it start the "not tutorial level" the whole geometry of the cave, walls, ceilling, floor, it all changed into more detailed 3D (what I also poorly described) and it carried over to sand too later on, but all that falls off at Alexandria too and honestly it would look outstanding with it too.
There are more areas of Alexandria to talk about but then I would ve covering far more than that and I just dont want to cover it all (lengthy) but Alexandria, in comlarison to all that until there and even more with the first few lvls, the difference is "huuuge".
Like I said, they did put extra work that was not put on the first remaster and Alexandria dont look bad, but to deny the beginning and until there the remaster of IV had a quality in graphics that dropped drastically at Aĺexandria is to deny facts.
The remasters of 1-3 aren't really consistent in their level of polish, either. They all start out pretty impressive, but the further in you go the more it's just a matter of texture replacements and arbitrary lighting changes to make things look different without actually putting that many manhours into it.
Honestly, I think the fact that they have indicated that more polish is coming at all already puts this pack ahead of the first one. There, we just got the TR1 Greece geometry changes that were already in the EGS version at launch. Unless I'm misremembering?
Point is, TR4 is perfectly playable in its current state, and I would not advise anyone to halt a playthrough to wait for whatever polish they might throw at it in an update that might not hit for weeks or months. And its not like whatever is in that update will make it a fundamentally different experience somehow.
I mean, let's be real here: Very few people who bought this collection will play the games only once - you will likely keep replaying them every so often, just like you have been with the originals. So if I were you, I'd play them now, and then enjoy whatever changes they make the next time around.
TR6 on the other hand... I wouldn't expect them to do much except finish replacing the character models and rolling out the effects that are in the GOG version to everyone. That game just... is what it is, and that is unlikely to ever change.
The only play which looked bad was Coastal Ruins and that was mainly due to the lack of grass / foliage and the fact that some 3d objects (roof tiles, etc) that existed in the previous level were not present in CR despite being effectively the same texture.
Honestly, TR4 is as polished as any of the first 3 games for the most part already.
AOD is a mess, but then it always was a mess.
yeh I am currently just passing library in TR4 and so far it looks great especially the GLOBE puzzle :) not much really to be polished on 4 looks great as is, as for TR6 that jooks looks and plays awful no matter what they do to the game, it would need a whole remake not a remaster to actually feel like a classic TR game and not a crystal dynamics pile of junk.
Same.
Why do it then?
Fair points; advice taken.
