WHY ARE DEVELOPERS OBSESSED WITH OVERUSE OF RNG
For the love of god. Please be more strategic and use RNG when its needed. Not slathered on everything..... This is a big problem lately with indie games like this. I love this game, but when RNG is on everything it eventually just takes the wind out of your sails when you've been doing everything right and the lamest RNG happens.

Your statement makes no sense man. This isn't chess, it's Tetris and like Tetris the RNG for the seed keeps the game playable because the time investment on a single run is trivial, it's a "rogue like game", i.e. low time investment per run on your part.

Also most of us can get scores in the millions, it's not hard. The choices are about minimizing the RNG and that is meaningful. There are cards that weigh it in your favor, you get re-rolls, you can banish cards, you can use constellations to change shape, type, and even the order of pieces.

i.e. you sound like you either suck at the game, refuse to use the tools, or think this something it's not, Chess/Diplomacy/Tik-Tac-Toe. If you are losing, even in on nightmare, it's not the RNG but your lack of skill or you are intentionally making bad choices, i.e. "why can't I win with eight fortified farms on Nightmare!!!"
I personally think that the addition of the Fortune Teller was a fantastic way to reduce the excessive RNG that had been originally built into the game. Especially when now you get options like “get rid of all cards that use mountains” and that kind of thing it basically means you can already define what terrain you’ll be scrapping for Act 3. I believe a healthy amount of RNG is essential for games like this and the balance is now about right.
Unless you’re playing on the highest difficulty, if one instance of bad RNG happens and screws the run, then you were probably not « doing everything right ». Most likely you were relying a lot on good RNG to happen.

Risk management is required in Drop Duchy, you need to know your odds and plan accordingly, you can’t do it all at once (all the lines, maximizing all the pieces, etc). If you get unlucky, you can undo and reload save (which isn’t something most roguelites allow), but at the end of the day, if you need to replay the round 10 times to win it, it’s not a problem of bad luck but bad deck (and you’re relying on luck to continue the run)
RNG = Random Number Generator, when things like the next card or loot are randomly shuffled.

Sometimes it can be frustrating but OP does not describe what they mean with "being more strategic". If i could select the complete order and type of cards i would achieve a mathematical highscore each single time.
Yeah I was frustrated. It's a common issue. I agree with most things said here. I think its just the flow of everything. I could go into a long verbose rant about it, but that's not necessary.

I am loving the game. It's more-so how the game flows overall and how different mechanics flow into one another. I understand the use for it and support it for the most part. It can just wane on ones sanity at times.
