Better Combat Tutorial maybe?
So, I was enjoying the placing of my little farm buildings and such, but I was baffled by the first combat. I feel like that needs an overhaul in presentation, more tooltips, more step by step, something.

I agree, the battles made no sense to me at first, but I think I've gotten the hang of it after a few rounds.

Edit: Or not... trying to figure out the way all interacts requires some trial and error, so more explanation would be welcome.
in my two runs battles go as such

place your military cards in a manner that benefit you while placing the enemy in a disadvantage, if an enemy needs to be near forest place them near plains to lower their count

once battle start choose your troops with advantage over an opposing enemy: if you have archers attack axemen. now here where it does get tricky and you have to do some back of the napkin math is when there are multiple enemy camps ranging in differing types, whats mention above still applies you want to attack a weaker camp first then from there attack a different camp even if it has an advantage over you to mitigate any total damage to your defense. here is as best i can illustrate how to do so

A=Axemen
R=Ranger
S=Sword
Blue=Player
Red=AI
(X), X=amount
[T]=terrain(this needed to be added to make sure the diagram is displayed properly

Blue R(20) [T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T]
[T][T]T] | [T][T][T][T][T][T][T]____Red S(15)
[T][T][T] | [T][T][T][T][T][T] /
[T][T][T] \____Red A(10)/

in the above diagram i have 20 archers ready to attack 10 axemen resulting in having 15 rangers remains since rangers do double the amount over axemen so the axemen are only doing half damage themselves 10/2=5, 20-5=15. now i have 15 archers up against the same amount of swordsmen and they do double to the archers while taking halve damage in a remainder of 7 (i think the game rounds down) with 7 enemies remaining by the end you take 7 total damage.

now if we reverse the order in which you attack with the archers attacking the swords first you will lose all your archers but now the axemen will add to the remaining swords which i still think would be 7 or maybe 8(rounding up this time because of a higher even number attacking them) now you are taking 17 to 18 total damage to defense.

now lets apply stacking your troops as well as stacking enemy troops

[T][T][T] Blue S(10)
[T][T][T] | [T][T][T][T][T][T] [T][T][T][T][T][T]
[T][T][T] | [T][T][T][T][T][T] [T][T][T][T][T][T]
Blue R(20)[T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T][T]
| [T][T][T][T][T][T] ____Red S(15)
| [T][T][T][T][T][T] /
\____Red A(10)/

in this diagram you have two differing camps too. when stacking to different camps the bigger one assimilates the smaller one so with 10 swords to 20 archers when stacking will result in 30 archers. now lets crush the enemy. doing the same sequence of attacking the axemen first with now a band of 30, our end result will be 25 with a total defeat of the axemen with sword left to deal with. now even though we have a much higher force then last time the swords will still beat us but not to the extend as last diagram this time the remainder will be 1 since our archers are still taking double damage( the tutorial did say that even a lower troop size with advantage can still take on a higher enemy troop) but in this case taking 6 less and that could make a lot of difference in the future.

now same as before stacking the enemy 10 axemen to 15 swords will end in 25 swords, that a no go for our archers the end result will be 0 archers with 15 enemy swords left to take on our 10 with a final result of the enemy having 5 swords left to our 0 (same type have no advantage its a numbers game at that point)

one final example is stacking plus individual conflict

[2]
[T][T][T][T]Blue S(10)------Blue A(8)
[T][T][T][T] | [T][T][T][T][T][T] \ [1]
[3][T][T] | [T][T][T][T][T][T] \
Blue R(20) [T][T][T][T][T][T] \
[T][T][T| [T][T][T][T][T][T] ____Red S(15)
[T][T][T]| [T][T][T][T][T][T][T] /
\_[4]___Red A(10)/

in this final diagram were doing individual conflict plus stacking by first selecting our 8 axemen onto the enemy swords then clicking on our own swords followed by the archers then finally the enemy axemen. how it will play out: since we have 8 axemen with an advantage over the swords of 15 the end result will be our victory with a remainder of 1 again doing double damage, now we stack our lonely axemen to our swords(he has friends now) with the 11 swords added to our 20 archers 31 now finish off the remaining axemen camp and victory once again.

but now lets stack the enemy first again. so if we go with what the last diagram showed of stacking the enemy we know that they will have a final remainder of 5 swords but this time we have an axe: 8 of them. once more victory will be ours with 4 remaining axemen or 3 depends of if the game will round up or down.

now this time selecting the enemy axemen to attack our swords first will have an end result of 5 then adding to the 15 swords, now with 20 swords attack our 20 archers end in complete loss of the archers with 10 enemy swords remaining but wait they have to once again get through our axemen which they have no chance if 15 the first time couldnt get them then no way 10 will.

now you maybe wondering why would you want to stack the enemy against us first? well depending on the situation and how weak an enemy force is it may be advantageous on our part for example. choosing the 10 enemy axemen to attack our own first will result in a loss for us with 2 enemies remaining to stack on to the swords now with 17. with the 17 swords to now attack our 10 ending in 7 remaining enemy swords to then finally attacking our 20 archers, but hold on we actually have just enough to beat them even while taking double damage. they can only do 14 damage to our 20 which will for the third time in the scenario will be our victory.

now for one final round, we'll do the same enemy stacking as last time but this time with the 17 swords will go against our archers. yes our archers fall but the enemy will have either 8 or 9 remaining whether the game rounds up or down to our own 10 sword and idk about you but 10 is more than 9 so for the final time we win.

i've never written a post this long whenever i see one i think "holy essay batman" but i think its warranted for explaining how the combat works and the different ways it can go about. hopefully this helps you can copy&paste this yourself to make a guide if everything here works for you because i aint typing all this again.

now my TED TALK is over off to watch Shangri-La Frontier

EDIT: idk why but the diagrams arent displayed correctly once the post was made. the units were clearly spaced out while writing it but they dont seem to now
I totally agree. I asked for a refund, because the tutorial totally confused me in terms of the battle system. What a shame, because I rally like the concept of this game. I managed to understand the effect of buildings, but battle was totally overwhelming and things happened on the screen and stuff was shown and I won eventually, but I do not understand why.
What happens exactly when choosing the order of armies at the beginning of a battle? Sorry, the density of the battle tutorial was way too frustrating for me.
Geez there’s literally just 3 types of units that work in rock paper scissors type format when fighting each other how complicated can it be??? If you’re confused simply read the text on the side of the map it explains it perfectly well.
I understood the strategy of battle, the rps advantage system, and how the unit type changes when they merge, but it's gonna take a while to get used to placing my enemy's peices. Especially when they come up before mine and I just laid out the perfect spot for it. :winter2019neutralbulb:

You didn't like it enough to actually try it though lol

Tutorial was confusing to me too. But then you play a couple of games and figure it out.

Still way easier to pick up then backpack battles lol.
Also leaving no holes in the terrain, with the best outcome for your army, and then figure that axemen beat swords, but not archers - end the other way around. Travelling the Terrain in terms and the if it was a harvested or/not is also important. Some buildings and squares leave resemblences of 2-3 or so men make it or not. It gets important by closer, or earlier deck builds if the challenges are higher.
