Framerate drop after 6 hours of play

Been playing for six hours, even completed all of the Duchy objectives, but suddenly the game is unbearably laggy. I didn't change any settings, just one day I opened the game and framerate was atrocious. I've put all graphics to the lowest settings since and it helped a tiny bit, but not enough to actually play. How do I resolve this?

I'd always doubted that the more statistic data I produce in this game, the more lag or game froze/crash rate increased. I think there may be something starts working on after we play for a period of time from the beginning.
