What happen exactly when you drop a piece that go above the terrain limit ?

If you have a long piece at the end of the Wall fight, you can place it vertically to make it so that boss piece is placed above the grid. It's a fun trick to save you from needing to beat 30 extra enemies and it's not like you can do much in the top four rows on that fight anyways.
