OMSI 2
Is OMSI 2 worth it?
I'm thinking about getting a better bus simulation game then Fernbus and TheBus. I often see that this game is either praised or heavily criticized, and I want to see what the community has to say about it. But first I have a few questions,
1. Is the game still being developed?
2. Is the DLC situation similar to that of Train Sim World?
3. What DLC are essential?
4. What is the best DLC route?
5. Are the graphics showing their age?
I MAY decide to buy it anyways and refund it if I don't like it, but I don't want to go through all of the hassle and stress only to find out it's outdated garbage.

OMSI 2 is the top BUS simulator
Yes, its still the only real one.
It is worth it though if you run on a low end PC or god forbid a laptop like me it wont really run well unless you crank everything down in the settings to low.
1. not officially by the original def. for a long time anymore but a huge community with very talanted people create mods like f.e. busses and maps (pay- and freeware)
2. for Omsi2 there is freeware dlc as well (f.e. omsi-webdisk.de)
3. BCS (bus company simulator) is a must have dlc for Omsi2
4. Can not be said. Depends on a personal thing.
5. graphics aren´t the most important part of a complex simulator but it´s o.k. (at least for me)
If you like "eye-cancer-UE4 or 5" graphics engine, then you probably won´t lke omsi2...

Watch a few omsi2 gameplay videos on youtube and decide on your own.

Omsi2 has always been and still is the No. 1 Bus Simulator :humiliation::qlexcellent: due it´s features and complexity.

I decided to buy it and try it out, if I don't like it I will refund it. So far it's a really bad first impression... The UI is confusing, it's a pain to try using any controller or wheel. Sure, the buses are realistic but that doesn't excuse the fact that it's taken me over an hour to even get my Logitech G29 over an hour to set up... I only have about 30 mins in game before I can't refund it, I really hope once I get things going the experience will be better.

After searching up a quick tutorial I was able to get my first route underway. Though it was cut short due to falling through the world when changing to the "Ego Perspective" or something similar. Overall a somewhat frustrating experience for a surprisingly good bus simulator.

beginning is a pain in the ass, but when you know what to do, and fix your ftp and lag problems it is one of the best sims

1st and most important thing to do, after a clean installation on a "modern pc":
you MUST! patch the Omsi.exe with the 4GB Patch, which can be found here:

https://ntcore.com/4gb-patch/

Further informations and links are also here:
https://omsiworld.com/?feature=downloadsystem&fileid=4gb&req=info

That will fix the "falling through the world"- issue
It's the definitive Bus simulator! Graphics are outdated, but simulation is outstanding. DLC situation is good, just use search engine, you will find loads. omsi-webdisk.de is a place to start. OMSI is full of historical content and therefore interesting for anything around the iron curtain time also. If you care for manual shifting, I recommend the old Mercedes City Busses and Ikarus DLCs.
Like a comfy old shoe.
It's a great bus game but it takes patience due to the older software coding and dated graphics but it's one of the best and has alot more to offer than the other bus games due to huge modding support, and huge number of content (maps and buses) created for the game compared to the others to keep you occupied which is what makes it the best. The older coding is what makes the game take longer to load and also since the graphics are a little older that can be put off for some people but there are addons like reshade that I use to make it look a little better.

I would say best dlc route is try a map dlc like berlin x10 or London or Hamburg it adds more than just the base game itself.

Print EVERYTHING. This is how these games used to be from the 90's onwards. Manuals and manuals. Routes are also printed, buses have tons of real world buttons and protocols that need to be followed before opening doors, starting changing gear etc, etc.

Eg:
Door Open button, handbrake must be applied to operate doors.
18. Door Close button, handbrake must be applied to operate doors.
19. Engage Drive Gear, footbrake must be fully depressed to engage a gear,
the gear button will flash if incorrectly engaged.
20. Engage Neutral Gear, the bus must be in neutral to start the engine.
21. Engage Reverse Gear, footbrake must be fully depressed to engage a gear,
the gear button will flash if it hasn’t correctly been engaged.

I have gamed for over 34 years on all the best sims released. I have a full A4 binder with printed out from this and notebook for PIN etc.

From Fellowsfilm -the best site for quality maps, buses and skins mods etc.

My fav map
https://fellowsfilm.com/downloads/westcountry-3.3166/
https://fellowsfilm.com/downloads/ukdt-cotterell.180/

you need to lower settings, like tiles to 1
AI buses to 29,
distance to 700
sound 600

this is 13yr old and 32 bit but NOTHING touches OMSI2 for 100% realism. You need to put in the work and you will get 200% back

I have 38 DLC from Steam alone

Thanks everyone for the replies! I will keep the game and maybe get London or Yorkshire Counties later.
