OMSI 2
New to OMSI, DLC questions
Hi, as the title says I'm completely new to OMSI 2.

I have the base game and nothing more I.E No mods or other files. I have managed to drive the different bus routes on the Berlin Spandau map that comes with the sim. I've used several buses, after following starting guides. I've still a lot to learn, but I have completed several journeys successfully.

What I'm looking for is DLC, that you simply buy on steam or I understand some free DLC can be got elsewhere, where you simply install the add on and you can play it, with no mucking around, with lots of file moving or you need x,y,z routes or x,y.z buses to drive etc... I.E. Load game, select add on, choose starting location, choose bus and then set up bus from A to B and just drive.

Not really sure, if that's the case, with most DLC available on steam.

Thanks for any help and advice. Really enjoying the sim so far.

Hamburg DLCs are nice routes that come with busses and also have addtional busses you can buy separate. If you buy all the Hamburg maps, they will work with each other.
Thanks for the reply.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/434065/OMSI_2_Addon_Rheinhausen/ and Hamburg maps are superb.
When you end a route it pretty much automatically sets the bus up for the return route, so you can drive back and forwards of favs
Thanks for the suggestions.

Maps seem to come with a bus.

But if you buy the Citybus 0405 for instance.

How do you know what maps it can be used on?

And possibly there's a guide on how to make it work on other maps.

Thanks again for your guys help. I just don't want to buy buses in particular that I can't drive, because I don't have any maps they work on.
Buses that open on the left or righthand drive can be used on UK DLC and free maps. Buses that open on the right or lefthand drive can be used on German maps and free maps.

You just copy the .hof file (map name) into the bus(es) folder. Sometimes the display may be incorrect, but that is visual only, as long as you can select it in the 'Alt' key menu -next to the Route select- then it will work. You can of course get edited .hof files but that's a choice for you.

I have over 289 buses DLC and a few freeware for english maps that i can drive on ALL maps.

All of my content is DLC bar about 3-4 maps.

I have the 0405 and use it on all German maps as it comes with two ticket machines.

Btw, check the manual to the left of the store page on buses and maps -download it and read it/print it.

The beauty of OMSI2 is that all buses can be used on the maps and when you buy a bus it often comes with lots of variants and old and modern models. Nothing is redundant.

Here's am example
Take a seat and enjoy the ride - welcome to the articulated buses in Hamburg! "Three Generations" is the first add-on especially developed for OMSI 2 with not only new vehicles but a whole lot of new and unique features which as such have never before been available in OMSI 2. The add-on includes two new articulated buses and the well known Hamburg City Bus as an 18 m version for all OMSI routes.

You will find buses from 1992, 1999 and 2012 in the configuration of how they were equipped in Hamburg with their modern cockpits and new features such as touch screen ticket printer, LED external display, digital info display, automatic air condition, operable trip odometer and more.

A first time for OMSI is the LED external lighting, power save mode and the automatic daytime lighting.

The new ticket printer in the 2012 articulated bus automatically recognizes all tickets on various maps and offers a graphic bus stop map display as well as a lockable till with money changer in DM and EURO for optimal ticket dispatching on all maps.

The three articulated buses complement all add-on maps (Vienna, Hamburg and Neuendorf) as well as Berlin-Spandau and offer many new sounds from the real life equivalent, photorealistic textures, scripts and 80 various paint jobs. The included repaint templates and visibility variables give you the option to adapt the visuals to all routes and configurations.

That applies to the Three generation Buses

Berlin X10 is a map that I would HIGHLY recommend. It has been my go to map to play every time ever since I bought it. If you are looking for a lot of routes, this is the map and plus it comes with 4 double-decker buses.
Another criterion is "LHD buses made by Darius Bode and other people". Darius buses and the Hamburg maps use a somewhat incompatible system because Darius thinks standards were not set for him. While usually his buses run pretty well on other maps (only thing I did not manage was the DM / Euro change depending on date) it is close to impossible to use other buses on maps that were made for Darius' buses without flaws. Most noteable are the Hamburg maps, try another bus like the MAN Stadtbus series there and the display will go mad due to the non-standard .hof files.
Thanks again for your guys help. Managed to get the Solaris bus from Naya map working on Projekt Szczecin.

I'm not Polish, but enjoying the Polish free maps.

Berlin X10 is easily the most optimised map and value for money out there.
The only other that has dozens of routes is London, though it’s a hog and will always have a stutter or two somewhere lol.

Be warned Wearecity, if you mess up the game with freeware maps - not buses, as these don’t interfere with assets- then you will have to either try reinstalling your DLC and/or the freeware map. If that fails, it’s a complete uninstall of Omsi and delete the folders left behind.

Verifying files only fixes bought DLC and won’t touch mods.
Ok, I will bear that in mind.

I'm taking it slowly at the moment, because I don't want a lot of clutter. I want to try to keep a clean install as possible. I'm checking everything is ok, after downloading DLC and making sure things are working, rather than just rushing and downloading everything.

Also taking my time, reading up on everything half a dozen time and watching lots of videos.
No problem with free maps, as long as you stick to the ones with good reputation. My favourite map is a free one called Ahlheim V4. When you try many of them, over time you will clutter your game, but usually it will still work, just carry a lot of ballast and take up a lot of HDD space.
DLC-wise I can also recommend Rheinhausen. Not so much for its original bus which did never run fluently for me, but the map is nice.

Btw, if you go into the ‘load’ option in the Omsi menu, you will find PC settings put in there for each map you buy by the makers. Ranging from high to low spec PCs. It’s not perfect, but it can get you a base to work from and tweak.

I like running the electric buses on Rheinhausen along with the 3 Hamburg maps
I can see how it can get very messy, very quickly. At the moment I've only got free stuff on top of the main game, so now is the time to experiment, before I have a huge lot of DLC.

My plan is to learn as much as possible, using the free stuff.

I'm keeping a copy of all the free stuff zipped up separately.

Then when I'm ready to buy dlc's, I'll delete everything, reinstall the main game and any free stuff I know doesn't cause problems and I actually want to play.

You sort of need two installs on different devices to test free stuff on one, before putting it into your main install.

Luckily I am computer savvy, so can follow instructions normally and so far following instructions, I've several maps, several buses and so far got everything to work.

Over 20 hours on the sim, since first posting to this forum, so guess I'm pretty addicted already :steamhappy:
That is excellent to hear! A lot of generally younger generation, cannot get their heads around the ‘good old days’ of copy and paste folders and editing files.

I have OMSI2 on my two rigs. One is Win 10 with a lot of mods and the other is Win 11 -my newest and ‘cleanest’ version of OMSI2.

I printed out the manual that came with OMSI2 and then I printed out the routes and all the other manuals and routes that I have since purchased.
I do not speak nor can read German, so I learned by installing ‘Google Translate’ on my mobile and tablet. I then just hold my camera up to the in-game text and it automatically translates it in front of my eyes.

It’s 100% invaluable as I can translate all the keys on the IBIS and any error messages when inputting routes to it. Bearing in mind I have some like like 52 DLC and 289 buses with different ticket machines lol.

I’m up to about 556hrs on OMSI2, second only to 11 years of ETS2 at 700 + hrs. This is of course real-time. I don’t cheat and leave my PC running to accrue fake sensationalistic figures!
