However, I have another problem that is not covered in the manual.
When the batteries have been recharged and I have removed the charging cable, I am unable to put the bus in gear and, hence, it will not move.
I can depress the footbrake and press the 'D' gear select switch but the bus obstinately remains in neutral - as shown on the digital console in the centre of the dash.
This happens at least 50% of the times I recharge the bus and I cannot find any solution to it.
Has anybody else experienced this?
On the console on the dashboard make sure there is a green bar and the word ready shown around the gear indicator, if not press "M" to start the bus back up.
Assuming that you have the Hafen City - Hamburg Modern map proceed as follows...
Go into the editor of the map you want to recharge the E-Bus in and, on the right hand side, make sure you have the 'Objects' tab highlighted. Navigate to the location on the map where you want the recharging point for the bus to be - this can be a bus garage or a terminus or wherever you like.
Half way down the box on the right-hand side, click the 'Load...' button.
In the top right hand corner of the window that appears - in 'Search Sceneryobjects' type...
3_BBD_elektro
That object should then appear on the left of the window. Double click it and the object will be transferred to the list of objects in the editor under the 'Actual Object Types' box.
Its title is 'HHA Betriebshof Alsterdorf (Ladebereich)'.
Click on the object name, press the 'N' key and the object will appear and you can use the left mouse button to place it exactly where you want it.
If the object doesn't appear it may be because it is below the existing terrain and you may need to adjust its height. You can adjust the object height in the box maked 'z:'.
The charging point object, when placed, is a large rectangle. If this looks unsightly on the map, you can adjust its height so that it is just below the surface of the existing terrain and is therefore invisible - it will work just as well.
You know I was actually going to do that the other day. That is until Jimbow explained to me exactly what I need to do. You don't need the carports to charge the bus. You just need to pull up to a refueling station or spot and once the sign comes, turn the bus off, open the charge port and it'll start charging the bus.
I had not pressed 'M' to turn off the power to the bus - that is why I couldn't get the battery charging to work. You therefore CAN charge the bus on any map.
However, what I wrote above still holds good if you want to be able to charge the bus at a location other than the bus garage or a petrol filling station - for example, at a bus terminus.
