Raw copy paste incase Steam forum URLs change destructively in the future (happened before):
This is caused by Windows audio enhancements (specific Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation settings).
Right click on the speaker icon in the bottom right of your desktop (in the notification tray) > Sounds > "Playback" tab > right click on the currently active audio device.
Click on the "Advanced tab" and set it up like this (tick both "Exclusive mode" options): https://i.imgur.com/j3dcaPm.png
Click on the "Enhancements" tab and ensure all are unticked: https://i.imgur.com/1yefsz9.png
If the issue persists come back and tick "Disable all enhancements"
Then click Apply then OK.
Restart OMSI 2 and try again.
Fun fact: This is a problem/incompatibility with a code library OMSI 2 uses so is not specific to OMSI 2. It sometimes occurs in other games too with the exact same error: https://steamcommunity.com/app/297750/discussions/1/1692659769966249982/
The OP mentions though that it happened when he downloaded a map with all the other requirements so this sounds like he installed a freeware map so OMSI was fine before.
Fair enough, still could be related though since OMSI is quite sensitive to the driver sound enhancements, just a guess for now
