I don't often even get to play for that length of time, let alone waste my time trying to fix a game.
Thanks to Arnstein86 for help and research you did, unfortunately, I still cannot get the game to work.
I will have to wait and see if the Aerosoft Support comes back to me via email, nothing yet though, not even an acknowledgment of my support request, so I don't hold up any hope there for an immediate remedy.
Do you have the "Mode" situation file in OMSI2/Situations? And can you open the mode.osn file in notepad to see if it refers to the correct map (and have the correct path)?
I had returned to the game initially, to refresh my memory and driving skills because I wanted to get the multiplayer add on 'Bus Company Simulator'.
In that add on, they say that it fixes bugs in the game. (I cannot see how it will fix this though, I was thinking more along the lines of bouncing bus and tile not loading issues that we all occaisionally get)... Although I've never had this -failure to load- trouble before and everything was working perfectly up to the point where I had shut the game off for about the second time.
I played the night before, no problems and then again the following morning, went out for lunch and returned to play in the PM and the game just wouldn't start... And here I still am...
But thanks again Arnstein86, you've done very well with what you've come up with and I'm sure those things would fix certain problems, trouble is identifying what is wrong, before I can fix this. I just wish someone from Aerosoft Support and / or an OMSI dev or modder could tell me what is wrong. I don't hold up much hope of that though.
None of the individual attempts of altering files, deleting lines or installing into different drives actually worked. The last thing I did, which I had already repeated many times over, was to totally uninstall and reinstall.
I didn't even expect it to work, clicked play and forgot about it, went out and came back in 30 mins later and the game was running! Totally lost as to what I did... But it is fixed and working now...
All I can attribute it to is conditioning; if that's a thing? And someone else had mentioned this repeated uninstalling and reinstalling thing to me in another post I had made on this issue elsewhere.
However, I think I will kick OMSI around for a bit and drive a few more routes, to see if this issue happens again. If I get through three sessions without this failure to start issue, I'll consider it permanently fixed.
Then I might reconsider getting Bus Company Sim (Its the Multiplayer Add-On if you didn't know), If I do, I'll come back and let you know here and maybe you can come and join my MP game?
Also, I will return if this issue persists.

Just to clear this up. .osn files are the saved situation files (or save games if you want for each map). Your error code was looking for a situation mode, that would be mode.osn. It throwed an error on you because that did not exist.
That wasn't a very positive thing to say. People are only trying to help.
Anyway, glad you got it sorted. Now get BCS and join the company called enyaP Buses LTD that Arnstein86' is Assistant Manager of.
Yea - thanks. But, I think you're taking what I said 'out-of-context' and missing the point of what I'm saying.
I'm not dishing bad vibes to 'random people giving unknowledgeable suggestions' - I myself am one of those people. I often offer my suggestions to try and help others, but I'm saying it shouldn't have to be like that. You get where I'm coming from... >???
If you're a game developer and you have a game out on STEAM (or any platform), you should be responsible for, and try to fix errors people are having by keeping a staff member reading your STEAM pages. No-where here do I see - anyone saying...
"Hey, I'm a staff member on the development team for this game and I will be happy to help you with your issue you're having today.." - But there's no one - none of that. ??? We are all left to fend for ourselves, and just randomly try out suggestions...
On my travels, visiting forums and any logical place I could find, no-where on these forums are there any real/actual development staff who have worked on this game helping people to fix issues.
And to top it all off, the game was working but it has now stopped again... I found loads of people with the same or similar issues, but not one development staff member offering a solution. (I don't know the full history of the game, but I don't think Aerosoft are the original developers; But, they are selling OMSI and a load of add-ons... Why aren't they here?)
I wrote to them, and not even had an acknowledgment of my support request, apart from the Autobot message you get on their webpage after requesting support.
I do appreciate what suggestions I received and I did try them out as you saw, they did seem like logical fixes, but in the end, the only possible thing I can think of, that got the game working temporarily, was the 12+ times I uninstalled and reinstalled...
(But I don't know for sure... I'm not a games developer or coder and I don't have a clue what I'm doing... So just take my suggestions on how I temporarily fixed this issue as an unwitting/unknowledgeable idea...) Please...
Bye..
That's because there is no more developer for OMSI2. It was abaondoned a long time ago and is no longer supported.
There were originally two developers of OMSI, they both split up and went their seperate ways. One of the original developers is now concentrating on LOTUS Simulator. A kind of OMSI-3 if you like only it will be both buses and trams.
The only thing that keeps the OMSI community together now is all the wonderful payware DLC from third paryt developers which does get fixed or patched if it gets broken and the freeware maps and buses from ordinary folk.
We have to rely on each other for help and advice. Sometimes the publisher - Aerosoft may give some advice but that's all they can do. OMSI itself isn't broken, It works flawlessly for a great deal many of us and problems can be problematic for individuals due to either human error or ignorance and Hardware issues.
But except where, like you said, "Sometimes the publisher - Aerosoft may give some advice but that's all they can do"... Not true exactly, they make plenty of cash from the add-ons and could easily afford to have a dedicated staff member offering advice and if they want to sell more, I think they should help more. - But that is only my personal opinion, don't take it as any disrespect upon the community... I too... am part of this community...
I did also say: - I don't think Aerosoft are the original developers; But, they ARE selling OMSI 2 and a load of add-ons... Why aren't they here?
Because I've already mentioned, OMSI is no longer supported and the developers nor the publisher offer any support. The publishers are not developers, they are mere sellers of a product.
Aerosoft sell Addon DLC but again, those are produced by third party developers. It's the third party developers that provide fixes and patches for any DLC that are buggy when released. Those developers don't come here either. We'd have to email them direct.
OMSI itself is working right out of the box, you even said yourself it was working without issues originally. Those experiencing issues with OMSI such as yourself will usually be down to human error and/or ignorance, again, you said yourself that you don't really know what you're doing so maybe you've messed up somewhere to the point of bad corrupted files.
Maybe a clean install of windows and starting from fresh might be the only way after all the other failed attempts you've experienced so far. Drastic measure I admit but it's probably the only option left other than shelving it and moving on.
You are taking things I've said very literally SB6...
I know enough not to delete original files without keeping a backup.
I'm no-newb to gaming! I just don't code or mod games, (although I have done some coding, but not in the same fashion/ league as for gaming, (writing scripts for macro's and the like, although true coders won't call that coding per se))!
I don't need to do anything as drastic and a fresh reinstall of windows as all my hundreds of other games are working fine as far as I know. OMSI has always been buggy at the best of times. (I think we all know how that goes)...
Show me one person who plays OMSI consistently who has never had a fault or glitch with controllers or graphics, maps not loading or vehicles going haywire and I'll ask them to buy me a lottery ticket, because they must be the luckiest person in the world. (Just sayin').
As for Aerosoft, they make money from selling the game and its DLC's and in any other walk of life, if the seller is not selling a product that works properly, they get nailed to the wall...
It's not about asking for money back or anything like that, it's just expecting a certain level of support, even if we can only expect it on the DLC's.
...And my point here is that, the base game did work reasonably well on its own up until I started adding DLC's, that's where the faults and game stopping errors stem from *I think.
*(But I cannot say for sure, like I said, I'm not a game coder or modder).
Maybe one of the many patches OMSI 2 has had over the years is causing this? That's why I downloaded a newer set of files.
If OMSI 2 was no longer being sold, then the question of offering support to customers wouldn't be a problem. But, since OMSI 2 is still being sold, no matter who is selling it, be it a dev, a publisher or anyone else, then they must offer some sort of support for the software.
-------
It's like a basic law of selling, consumer rights say that you are not allowed to sell something that doesn't work, is faulty or not fit for purpose.
This is still being sold, if even in its original format, then the seller must make sure it works or offer a replacement or refund.
When you download and reinstall software, you are getting a fresh copy of the files, hopefully in their most up to date state and with no errors or omissions.
(I know things are not as simple as that), as you will probably agree; I hope, things like various different Operating Systems, files and other unknown software running on a machine, on top of all the possible different permutations of hardware and software, could be affecting OMSI 2 in some way that is unique to my PC. Who knows? But we shouldn't be left to make guesses, there will be an answer.
I guess I won't be getting Bus Company Sim after all, since my OMSI base-game isn't working anymore. After that, I was going to get Chicago and perhaps Hamburg. Those will all be lost sales for Aerosoft and I know for sure I'm not the only one with this issue!
Anyway, I'm going to call it quits here. I think this particular discussion is well past its sell-by date, (perhaps like OMSI 2 if it's not going to be supported anymore). ;-(
"Fatal Error Occurred! OMSI will be closed."
And on that note... I hope all your troubles be small and get fixed soon!
Thanks to all the replied..
Um,..no, not really. I think the discussion has been rather civil.
Me. Seriously. I've never had a problem with OMSI. Then again, I only have the payware DLC and none of the freeware maps and buses as I believe that's where many problems can occur for some users.
But it is working. it even worked for you until recently so obviosly something has changed your end. Don't go balming Aerosoft.
Email Aerosoft and the developers of DLC's. You'll get your support there. Steam forums are just a community based discussion centre. Devs are not at liberty to spend time on forums if they choose not to.
See my answer above. Again, it was working fine until you started adding DLC.Have you been also adding freeware stuff and messed up your directory e.t.c.??
They do. Email them.
It is fit for purpose. I've been playing this for three years along with nearly all official DLC.
See above. it does work. Steam offer a refund after a two hour window. Yours was working so you kept it.
I think it's best. Sorry it hasn't worked out for you.
