None of the individual attempts of altering files, deleting lines or installing into different drives actually worked. The last thing I did, which I had already repeated many times over, was to totally uninstall and reinstall.
I didn't even expect it to work, clicked play and forgot about it, went out and came back in 30 mins later and the game was running! Totally lost as to what I did... But it is fixed and working now! ;-)
All I can attribute it to is conditioning; if that's a thing? And someone else had mentioned this repeated uninstalling and reinstalling thing to me in another post I had made on this issue elsewhere.
Unfortunately, in nearly all these posts where the players are reporting OMSI 2 not starting, very few people come back to their original post to say how / or if - they fixed the issue. (I will)!
So the problem here is really with the developers, they should get their act together and professionally and knowledgeably answer these issues people are having, - so that others like me could read and fix our games ourselves.
Instead, we have to rely on random people giving unknowledgeable suggestions (some people who I've noticed are reporting what they think are faults, e.g. 'Bus won't move' is not a fault when you discover they think they are playing a squeeze and go game like GTA, Fortza bla bla bla)... Ha ha ha ha...
I've tried asking for support at Aerosoft-Support via email, but I wanted and needed to play now (immediately; -unfortunately, its the next day now as I write this);
I was in the middle of making a video series and stopped and shut down to go out for a meal that day, without changing anything, no add-ons added etc, upon my return the game just refused to start.

Its been only a few hours since I contacted email support. # However... I've asked for email support in the past and the usual scenario is support asking lots of silly questions about your PC hardware days later: And going back and forth over this scenario before they start offering possible solutions.
LOOK - I'd say, I've been playing (whatever game it is) / OMSI for years without issue, The game was running fine only hours before. Nothing has changed on my PC from the time I shut down the game to restarting the game several hours later...
In this case, I only get seconds into the first screen before the white popup box displays the error message "Situation Mode could not be loaded. - Map not found", and that's it... No game options to work with, no options to 'ignore map loading' or to 'not to load buses' etc, which are the things others are talking about who have similar issues to mine.
Situation Mode could not be loaded. - Map not found!
(Or even an error code for heaven's sake).
Then they should also have a straightforward fix with an explanation.
Try searching for 'Situation Mode could not be loaded. - Map not found!' (between the quotes) and I get nothing..

So - I've done all of this, deleted in STEAM and reinstalled, not working... Manually deleted and reinstalled in STEAM -= not working...
I kept a copy of my original files before I deleted them and I have even replaced them - still no joy. Nothing is working at this time.
Possibly a good idea: I'm going to try that...
I'll do this by replacing the original file I copied to a secure location before I started all this, but I have tried replacing the moved files a few times now and that doesn't work. - This time I will make a separate backup of the OMSI/Situations as you say (from my original files)- then delete and reinstall OMSI 2 via STEAM then replace the OMSI 2/Situations (overwrite the downloaded file)... Here goes..
That did not work, but thanks for the info...
So to recap - I took my original OMSI/Situations file (I know enough to keep my original files if I ever need to delete and reinstall game files, no matter what game it is if you are having problems), and then replaced it over my newly STEAM downloaded OMSI 2 / Situations file -
Neither the complete original game files, not the newly downloaded OMSI 2 files work, and nor doe the new OMSI 2 files with the old original Situations file work... No joy!

I replaced the file and deleted everything inside the folder...Still same result...
Replaced situations file - still no joy!
Result: Still not working...
And one more thing - do you have the "mode" situation present in the situations folder?
I may found a solution for you.
Look here: OMSI 2 Forum[translate.google.com]
Look a bit down - you can edit the config file to see if you get access to the main menu.
Exactly - I don't even get to the menu! From clicking 'PLAY' the OMSI 2 1st loading screen shows and within 8 seconds, I get the white box pop up over that... So I don't even get to the menu.
Thanks - looking into that now...
HERE'S WHAT I FOUND -
I think, since my file is a new one, ref I redownloaded the whole OMSI 2 game from STEAM, that it should work, else everyone that gets this game from now on should have the same error as I have the same files as everyone else.
Here's my options.cfg file - it already had the correct last map line as per that post, but that is obviously different to my original options.cfg file, I will post the first few lines of my original old .cfg to show the difference in the next post.
However... for now, as I said, I don't think it can be the options.cfg file as this is the same as any other new persons game will be as it is a fresh download now.
(If I have to go with a totally new game, I will lose over 100 hours of good bus driving records)... But, I'm not as concerned with that as not being able to even load the game anymore.

So - as you can see - I did have a different map loaded, but I think that is not the issue.
That's why I was re installing Direcct X from the new game files.
I am desparate and willing to try anything...
I don't understand why ...
1, The game wa working fine then after I closed it as reopened it a few hours later it was not working, when nothing changed on my PC or in the game?
2, Now that I have the simple brand new basic files, the game is still not running?
