because graphics is so horrible :D
Well, you also have to consider, it was made for the 32 bit in a era that had long left it. There is a 4GB patch one can get. That usually takes care of a few issues here and there related to the limitations of 32 bit, though it has other things that show up in the 3rd party maps that end up needing to be looked at.

The Graphics are okay considering the small team that made it originally. The beauty of OMSI isn't so much in how it looks (though the Spandau map does take some interesting attention to detail, such as the diffrences in the lighting in West Berlin and Falkansee (in then DDR)). The nice thing about OMSI is typically more in how some of the systems are simulated.

Granted, new bus sims are coming out in the near future. One of the devs that made this is working on LOTUS, though it seems focus on that initally will be more on Trams. I've heard of others too that can easily become spiritual sucesssors to OMSI2.

That would really bite it if it comes out as a Tram simulator.

It possibly won't. While it is coming togeather, it's obviously in no shape to come out any time soon! From what it looks like, it has been in development for years, as it's looking like it might be well on its way to being the Duke Nukem Forever of the Sim World, and by that, essentially in development for eternity. I do like what I've seen so far thoguh.

I recall the devs showing on Youtube an explaination of the dev path they want to take. They mentioned initially, there would just be Trams as drivable vehicles. Eventually they want to go into doing buses and trains. A little ambitious for a small team I think. If it hits the fan, but we do have a LOTUS out on the market, we might get what we have in OMSI, but the opposite situation, buses that are there and drivable, but definetly not optimized and possibly glitchy if you tried to drive them.

the game was made in Direct X 9 or 10 I think hence the sub-par graphics

4 to 8 years is pretty much standard in Game development for a single game. (Without work on it's engine)

They also made it clear that the first stage is Bus + Tram, followed by things like Trains.

Omsi 1, by the way, also needed around 4 years from start to finish. During this time, the two developers made omsi while they also studied. This time they work on it fulltime, which means we can expect a similar time LOTUS (the first part with tram and bus) needs to be released.
