OMSI 2

Can I achieve 60FPS, with minimal drops with my specs?
i7-7700K
GTX 1080
16GB RAM

I’m looking to play with minimal drops, if you don’t think I can run at this, maybe tell me what I can then. I know I should in theory be able to but omsi 2 is unoptimised. If you have the same specs asked appreciated, I didn’t want to buy it until I was sure I could at least run it at good fps.

More specifically I want to play British based maps, if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Hello,
Due to the unpredictable nature of OMSI, it is not likely that you will achieve a consistent 60 frames - there are simply too many variables at work. Your framerate is affected primarily by how the map is built and what bus you're using. Well-crafted maps and buses have a lighter touch on your system, and in those cases you can achieve a good average (60FPS might be a touch optimistic). However, even on the best systems, badly-made maps absolutely tank.

The problem with British maps is there simply isn't a lot of choice, and not much in the way of build quality you expect from a Darius-made DLC, for instance.

The community is expanding, however, and map building techniques are always improving.

With that being said, there are of course several things you can do to ensure good performance:

- Use a so-called '4GB patch' - as a 32-bit application, OMSI needs an executable patch to be able to allocate more memory.

- Close or pause any processes or applications which can be using your CPU too heavily - OMSI relies more on CPU than anything else. I would recommend an application such as Razer Cortex's Game Booster to clear out unnecessary processes.

- Review your game settings. There are some unnecessary graphic settings which provide little benefit for the performance tax. Specifically, stencil buffer effects, and especially shadows. OMSI does not render shadows properly, so only few items actually cast them, yet performance can be heavily affected. AI vehicles are a big hit, as well, so if you want to boost FPS, keep parked cars and unscheduled AI vehicles lower. With a system like yours, I don't think you'd need to be too crazy with your settings, however. There are additional steps you can take (such as reducing neighbour tile count), but I don't think you'd need to do this.

For reference, I can run Chicago DLC with recommended settings (modified to have max traffic), and still attain >40-50fps in the downtown area, despite my system being notably less powerful than yours (and 4 years old).
