You'll have a very long wait then because this game has effectively been abandoned. The remaining developer has moved on since OMSI and is now working on his new transport Sim called LOTUS.
There's not much more he can do now to this old, outdated 32Bit game. In fact, it's only the DLC and freeware maps/buses that are keeping OMSI alive and of course, the recent Bus Company Simulator (BCS), DLC has sparked some renewed interest for veterans and new players alike.
As said above, install the 4Gb patch, it may help and you may have to reduce some of your settings to obtain a stable game.
seem to have abandoned OMSI.
That is really unfair to most of us.
I disagree. OMSI-2 was released in December 2013 so almost four years old now. Before that, was the original OMSI.
As for further optimising the game which is limited due to it's outdated 32Bit Engine, there's not a lot more that can be done. I mean, it's the best and only Bus simulator out there that has literally everything incorporated into the game.
Bus tickets, ticket machines, cash money, excellent bus physics, timetable schedules, real global weather, seasons, and of course, the passengers themselves. The buses get dirty, we can wash them, refuel them, repair them, open the windows, air-conditioning, heating e.t.c, e.t.c. It's all there. So much more than in the current Fernbus and even ETS-2. The original two OMSI Devs did an excellent job.
The Devs eventually split up, I think it was messy, one of them moved on to the current LOTUS project, nobody knows what happened to the other Dev.
Yes,..it is annoying with those tile loading stutters and odd freezes that make you have to quit and restart, but thankfully, those moments are rare and sporadic (for me anyway).
To be honest,..it all depends on your PC specs. Everybody's configuration is different so it really is just a case of trial and error and see what's the best fit. Start off with sliders at low and gradually increase each one a little at a time each time you play. The same goes for either default OMSI and DLC.
Even the beefiest PC can suffer stutters and game freezes on occassion just simply because the game isn't optimised for todays faster PCs. Remember, OMSI cannot use more than 2Gb of RAM which is why it's important to install the 4Gb patch otherwise you will see white textures on buildings and buses.
Take comfort in knowing that all of us suffer the dreaded stutters and freezes while each tile loads in front of us and sometimes, it might not load at all. It's so random. Just yesterday, I myself had a game freeze on default map. Nothing I could do except quit and start again.
OMSI is great and I'm having a blast with it and always have done despite it's drawbacks.
Maybe a little help for finding the right settings:
