StarDrive 2

Corrupt files and validation loop
First of all, thanks for making this 2nd StarDrive game – as a old fan of Master of Orion II i really enjoy it.

I do however have a small problem with it. When ever I have quitted the game after playing it, it seems like steam wants to install a small update. When I then press download it then starts saying “validating”. And then comes the strange part – as soon as it has counted down to be complete it just starts over again! And if I try to start up the game while its trying to validate a error message comes up:

“An error occuord while updating StarDrive 2(corrupt content files)”

I then try to quit steam and run it again as adminstator and verify integrity of game cache (which steam it self says is the way to deal with corrupt content files) and it does then say:

“1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired”

So there is a file that is corrupted which makes problems, i know that for certain. But then it just tries to validate the game again, without fixing the problem!

I have then tried another fix sugressed by steam for windows XP/Vista/7/8
Users by refreshing your files as they call it:
- Completely exit the Steam client.
- Open the run dialogue by pressing windows key + r (you can also navigate here from the start menu by typing run).
- Type steam://flushconfig then press enter. (If asked to allow this website to open a program, please click Allow or OK).
- Restart your computer.
- Now, launch Steam directly from the installation folder, not from a pre-existing shortcut (~C:\program files (x86)\Steam).
- The Steam application will either appear as Steam or Steam.exe depending on whether your settings show file extensions.

This actually works and the game will start up and play fine… until I quit the game and it wants to validate the game again. So right now the only way to make it work is by the refresh file fix, which is frustrating since there must be a more permanent fix.

I am writing this so the dev can get informed about the problem, and to help other who have the same issue.

I am running with the following hardware/software:

Video Card:
Driver: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770
Memory:
RAM: 8097 Mb
CPU:
Intel® core TM I5-4570 @ 3.20 GHz
OS:
Windows 8.1

This sounds like a Steam issue specific to your computer. I don't know how to solve it, as I'm fairly certain that everything is configured correctly on this end.

If it happens again see if running Steam as an administrator helps

Also sometimes changing your download region helps. You can have an instance where a specifc CDN server has bad files. Changing your download region forces Steam to use a different CDN which may have the clean files. It's a pretty rare thing to happen though.

lol, i dont know if you read the whole post but i do write that running as administrator did help, but it was only a temporary fix. But it works now - for what ever reason.

I have this problem and this way have solved it.
1. Go to Steam app folder, usually "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\"
2. Go to Logs folder and find "content_log.txt" file and open it with any editor, i.e Notepad
3. Find "corrupt" in content and you will know that file of game folder have corrupted.
4. Delete that file and open Steam, it'll verify that game again and try to download missing file.
5. If Steam keep validating game files loop, check "content_log.txt" again and delete remaining corrupted files and open Steam with Admin right.
6. After that, this game should start normal.
Sorry for my bad English.
