Modders were very pissed with devteam so don't really come here but they carried on for quite a bit after the game was abandoned.
However, this mod is not the only mod existing (or rather having existed) for Stardrive 2.
A few years ago, on the official site of this game (which seems to no longer exist), there were 3 or 4 mods.
I have these mods in archive. I am not the author or a modder.
I do not have contact with the authors. I have the feeling that they have not been interested for a while in Stardrive 2 which is quite understandable for a lot of reasons.
I was surprised to see that a "new" mod had appeared.
That's why, I like to share with the community the old mods that I have in archive. Because I think a modder could find resources or ideas. Of course if the authors recognize their mods and want them to be removed, I will remove the links.
I'm not sure that all these mods will work with the current version of the game.
Some may be too old and will not work anymore.
Let's start with "mod expansion". It brought new technologies, new equipment for the ships and probably more (it's been a while since I played). This one works with version 1.4 and DLC.

I've got a decent rig and it takes at least 5 minutes to load SD2.
