From an oldschool DD vet... this just ain't double dragon.
There's a lot of stuff in this game that is nonsensical just for the sake of nonsense whereas the OG DDs were takes on bruce lee's game of death. The fighting mechanics/physics feel too slippery, loose, and SLOW.

The feedback on hits (sound/animations) is sloppy and lacks oomph, character designs are terrible... and no signature hair pull to knee in the face? You gotta be kidding me.

This series needs to be given to someone that loves double dragon and understands what set it apart, thereby making it one of the most legendary IPs in videogames.

Wayforward, you're probably a group of standup guys, but this totally misses the mark, at least for DD vets.

I'd love to get past stage 8, but there's a game breaking bug that causes crashes when you get the boss near to death.

I've beaten the game with a friend on coop. That's unfortunate that you had a crash. If it happens everytime, report it and let the devs know.

As a fellow old school Double Dragon vet and fan as well as a game design major, I just got a few things to say.
1. This is why game devs these days often just release/forget games and don't want to listen to fans. Because they find things to nitpick about when countless man hours went into the game and it still gets shreded (Or the game dev teams get slammed for not living up to "expectations" of a game that probbaly never would have existed and didnt warrant a remake but they did it anyway.
2. This game probbaly most likely started as a weekend discussion over some drinks and they said "Hell yeah son, let's do it!" And in all honesty didn't even have to exist/come to Steam.
3. Character design is terrible? Compared to what? 8 bit sprites that look like red and blue Elvis? With exception of Abobo...and the fact that without color he looks like "Lobo" with a haircut from superman TAS...they are fine! In fact, superior in looks.
4. I won't argue the movement feels a bit slow...but so did the originals when i think back about it.. so there is a point for capturing ~that~ feel. Double Dragon was never known for being one of the faster beatem ups..and if you want it ~fast~ I see on youtube there is some sort of trainer that will allow you to go DBZ fast on foes... but it looks like it cheapens the experience as the foes never get a chance to react from the flurry of hits.
5. Animation and clunkyness? Expected from a budget "arcade" title game..which will most likely bit the $3 steam bargain bin soon enough. These things happen when you only have soo much money/time put into a game.. and that has shown time and time again. ~SOME~ indie guys...fan-modders and otherwise can often do better in that aspect, but it is still a major investment of time, resources, and usually money. Personally, I can live with the clunkyness...but i CAN"T live with the horridly unacceptable desync when i want to play with the other guys from my youtube channel and show the game off.
6. With the success of Blood Dragon... we needed the "80's cheese" to take the edge off all these ultra-violent/ultra-real games that took themselves too seriously. And what better throwback to cheese up than one of the most iconic games from the period?
7. Stop and take a look at the title...closely.. look again.....now look away.....now look good and hard and try to tell me you took the word "Neon" seriously....even if it was paired with the famous double dragon name. From the moment i saw "Neon" and not "Neo" I already detected some 80's cheesy flair and cornyness... just saying. It's flipping NEON!!
8. Are you really going to nag about the hair to knee pull? they add a few dozen new moves and abilities..including a crotch punch (while foe is on the ground) and you are going to pull that card? I'm feeling a bit trolled here....just saying.

TLDR: Game is fine for an 80's cheese of a cult classic
co-op desync and lag / memory leaks / performance issues / 3rd party controller support / screen tearing even with V-sync enabled are much bigger issues. FIX THEM

Speaking of Abobo looking like lobo...
I'm just going to leave this for humor sake.

i would love see a complete mirror image of the DD moves elbows , knee into throw , the cyclone kick that you had to press kick at the peak of youre jump actually you should just remake all three and mirror image of the acade version , but thanks for making this game it is without a doubt the best beat em up ever . there was a few that were also good but this was the greatist .

i agree with the OP that this isn't double dragon at all...it is not a new start or anything. it's nostalgia for the sake of nostalgia, but it doesn't bring back that feeling... it's just using it in name only, not paying respect - it misses the mark but comes off as a tryhard who doesn't know enough. sorry. I'll play through it, but it isn't what it could have been.

Double Dragon Neon is well worth the money and is a very nice nostalgic journey back to the eighties. Sure it's not flawless, ocationally it crash but overall it's a very nice gaming experience. :)

Certainly missing some things, but overall the game stands for its own. Its fun, its hard, its challenging, it has great graphics. Just its a shame about the multiplayer.
Slaggo 17 fev. 2014 às 10:07
DD Neon is great in my books. It works wonderfully, the graphics are great, and it's a fresh new take on an old school beat 'em up.
Daddy Macaque 17 fev. 2014 às 11:30
I love Neon - it's not trying to be the original, and it doesnt take itself anywhere near as seriously as the first two installments - and I think that is why this iis great. It's an homage to Double Dragon of yore, but it's out to have fun and it totally succeeds. And Skullmagedon is IMHO the best villain ever. I adore that bastard.
Metsakurat 18 fev. 2014 às 11:39
As an olds-school DD vet...this is DD. This game is awesome and everybody should play it!

EDIT: It's like saying that GTA 3 up to GTA V aren't GTA games because they don't have the top down (over the head/isometric, call it whatever you want) view like the first games had.
Neon stays true to the originals just like GTA 3 stayed true to the originals. It doesn't mean that everything has to stay the same tho. Progress!
Neon is an awesome reboot!

It's also really wrong to talk for everybody. You can't talk for all DD vets and say that Neon misses the mark for all older DD fans.
There's a lot of old DD fans who love Neon.

I WAS kinda bummed that they left that one out... this one is a lot less savage, but its really a fun game... totally channels old Saturday morning cartoons to me.. Its an homage to the era, not just the Double Dragon franchise.. Just... Skullmageddon for the win. Best Villain Ever.
