I have the terrible feeling there IS no save data. Just been googling that myself, and it appears they expect you to complete the game in one sitting!!! Sigh...

You can reset the preferences via the developer console. You open it up by pressing "~".
Type "TOGGLEDEBUG" and then type "RESETPREFS".
Make sure to turn off debug by typing "TOGGLEDEBUG" again, because achievements and leaderboards will be disabled with debug turned on.

As for the save file...well, some other players (including me) were already searching and asking for its location but didn't get an answer yet. So no clue where it actually is located.

However,

This is utter nonsense.

The actual save data is in your Registry->HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Blue Isle Studios->Slender - The Arrival

This part has me puzzled right now. Maybe due to language differences? I tried searching for folder with "HKEY", but got no results either.
Would you kindly tell us the actual filename?

This is not found inside windows explorer. It's found in regedit.

To open regedit, press the windows key and type "regedit" + press enter.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER is the name of folder inside.

Well, then it's no wonder that I couldn't find these files :)
However...I went to delete the files, I uninstalled the game, unistalled the non-steam version too and re-installed the game.
My stats and progress are still there. Is there another save file somewhere hidden?

Sorry man, which part is utter nonsense? If you play the game part-way through, turn it off, come back to it later, you appear to have NO option whatsoever to keep your progress. If I'm wrong about this, I would LOVE to hear to the contrary!!! 'Cause if there's one thing I like, indeed expect, from a game, it's the option to save at least once every half hour or so of gameplay. I got up to the Eight Pages chapter, turned off the game, went back in and had to start at the Prologue again...absolutely no option otherwise. If you can tell me how to get around this I'll be more than happy to accept what I have written as nonsense. Believe me, I'll be happy :D

Waaaaaaait a minute...think I sussed it out. "Prologue" (ie. the beginning of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game!) is selectable as a Chapter to me, so...I'm guessing I MIGHT actually be able to start again, from the beginning of Chapter Two, once I have COMPLETED CHAPTER TWO??? This is at least an improvement over starting at Chapter One every time I start the bloody game, but on the whole, not exactly an efficient save system. Not all of us spend our every waking moment playing video games, and if there's one thing which ♥♥♥♥♥ me to tears it's games forcing me to go back and replay a whole huge section of a game I've already "beaten". But at least I might GRADUALLY peck my way through this one.

Shame I have that attitude though...this is very nearly an excellent game. Do these indie game designers ever...Lord forbid...get OTHER PEOPLE to play-test their games? So they can get feedback like "Dude, you gotta let people save occasionally, otherwise they'll just give up on your game altogether?" Some of us only want to put on a game for thirty minutes or an hour, save where we are, and go to bed so we can make it to our ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ jobs in the morning. We don't HAVE however-many spare hours to play non-stop. Anyway, I suspect I'm wasting my time here, as I'd be surprised if anyone who has anything to do with game design, much less the design of THIS particular game, will be reading my comment. It would be nice, though, wouldn't it? User-friendly games. There's a dream for us all :)

Lol, huge wall of text. But I read it all. There's two things I gotta say:

1. The game autosaves your progress everytime you finish a chapter. (which is the only kind of save that makes sense in this game)
2. SOuNDSNC is a developer of this game and he has already replied the thread twice.

There is however, a current bug for some users that does not recognise a level as beaten once you beat it. There is a patch coming for this issue soon.

Ah, I see...well, in that case, I might wait til the bug is fixed, 'cause I suspect I may be one of the latter people. Cheers for the info ;)

The bug is that while it saves your progress fine, the save upload to steam cloud has the ability to fail. We didn't account for this, so if it fails and you launch the game, it downloads the steam cloud data (which doesn't have your latest progress) and overwrites your local data (which did).

Hi developpers, got the same problem...So we must beat the game in one run?? I hope there would be a solution soon, because it's a bit annoying ...I don't wanna start from the beginning again and again.....
Thx and cheers to your awesome work, the experience is dreadful ..love it^^

I'm not so sure about this. I attempted to play three times in offline mode and the game never saved my progress. Since I'm offline, disconnected from the net, and furthermore don't have Cloud syncing enabled in Steam, I don't really see how it can be overwriting my local save data. It seems to me more like the game requires Cloud saves and doesn't record your progress at all if it can't (or fails) to connect.
