Now Faceless, if they can get their stuff together, that looks like it will be interesting
The whole of Arrival was item gathering pretty much, which is annoying as hell if you are constantly under threat of being caught.
The two scariest moments in a game that I ever had was in Condemned (first game) and the first Dead Space.
In Condemned, it was the locker search moment... I'll say no more.
In Dead Space, it was returning back to the airlock moment... I'll say no more.
My underpants could not be replaced.
No game has done that thus far, but then again I've not fully inveloped into any horror game
Dead Space is probably one of the worst examples of the horror genre, you star as a completely bad ass spaceman loaded to the teeth with incredible space weapons. Fun games but not really scary when you can just blow the enemies away. Hell, you can even stomp them to death. Dead Space did have fantastic atmosphere though. If only they'd make a Dead Space game where you play as a defenseless citizen.
Silent Hill 2 is my favorite horror game because it understood this. The combat was intentionally terrible because you're just a normal man and you felt vunerable.
Well yes, the Slenderman myth is very interesting but the game itself doesn't actually tell you much about him. It would have been better to put the info into the game (so that you can actually investigate the myth) instead of having to read about him afterwards.
It's not as if I dislike the game but it wasted quite a lot of potential in telling a good story.
And ultimately taste simply differs. I don't find Dead Space scary even though it can create a good atmosphere. But only Slender - The Arrival actually gave me goosebumbs due to it's scary atmosphere in combination with it's jump scares. Although that only applies to the woods. Being hunted by the proxy was more annyoing than anything.
And most indie horror games are simply boring. I don't even know what's supposed to be good about any of the SCP games. Containment Breach for example has an interesting premise but the gameplay is just boring.
