Slender: The Arrival
Is Slender really what is supposed to be the horror genre?
Jumpscares should never be the focus of a horror game, and the fact that Slender and Slender The Arrival is what is considered to be the new and bet horror games out there makes me scared for the horror genre. That being said, I played the first Slender game and it had an excellent atmosphere. BUT, it had very repetitive gameplay and I would get lost alot. It also failed in making me afraid to sleep at night. I have seen several horror games that made me scared and I didnt even play them! They made me scared like a good horror movie. I personally think that the best horror game I've ever played personally was Dead Space 2, but thats because it had enough action that I kept playing instead of being in the futile posistion.

Slender isn't only jumpscares, if you'd read the mythos behind Slenderman, which has been around since 2009, you'd start to get the idea as to why Slenderman is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrifiying. Just playing this game and not reading the mythos behind him is stupid

Well yes, the Slenderman myth is very interesting but the game itself doesn't actually tell you much about him. It would have been better to put the info into the game (so that you can actually investigate the myth) instead of having to read about him afterwards.
It's not as if I dislike the game but it wasted quite a lot of potential in telling a good story.

And ultimately taste simply differs. I don't find Dead Space scary even though it can create a good atmosphere. But only Slender - The Arrival actually gave me goosebumbs due to it's scary atmosphere in combination with it's jump scares. Although that only applies to the woods. Being hunted by the proxy was more annyoing than anything.

And most indie horror games are simply boring. I don't even know what's supposed to be good about any of the SCP games. Containment Breach for example has an interesting premise but the gameplay is just boring.
Ive never thought of what he does as "chilling". I mean he really doesnt DO anything, except stand there. I just feel like the necromorphs were more horrifying. They stuck with me in the dark, Slenderman didnt. :/

The popular stuff of the horror genre today are gimmick games made for YouTube, not for gamers, unfortunately.

Well yes, Slenderman just stands there when you're looking at him. But when you're not looking he is rigorously hunting you down the more pages you get and if you increase the difficulty it get's even worse, especially because your flashlight can run out of juice and you have to stumble through the darkness while Slenderman seems to be wherever you try to run.
Imo that's much more stuff of nightmares than the Necromorphs because, as Dead Space shows, you can easily kill them if you have the neccessary weapons. But how are you going to kill Slenderman when he could simply teleport away and drive you mad the closer he gets?

Sure, his presentation could be much more menacing and maybe one of the next Slenderman games will actually accomplish that while also telling an interesting story, but in that regard I find The Arrival good enough.

In theory this would be great! But I have yet to see the exicution done well.
The 21st century is ran by children who watch youtube literally all day (This is also part of the reason most internet companies have placed a bandwidth limit, thanks youtubers!) anyways, what I am saying is that most games aren't being made to let the player actually enjoy their experiance with the actual game, they are made basically so youtubers could make "funny" reactions to gain attention. Most people don't even play the games themselves!!!!! What happened to playing games?

Exactly my point. The problem with that is that most youtubers act when they play things like Slender. Slender didnt have anything disturbing and twisted in it like Amnesia. And Slender himself isn't as memorable and horrifying as the Necromorphs from Dead Space. Again I played the first Slender and it was a fun expeirience (I don't know how to spell that! XD) while it lasted.
Dead space didn't scare me at all when I played it and dead space two, but watching slenderman on youtube made me jump, alot. But it does get old, jumpscares are a one time use sort of thing. After you watch it once and get scared you then realize how simple it is and then you start disliking it and calling it over rated. When really it did its job since it was a short project that got very popular. Its still a success and a majority of the people who played it think so too. Just a moral.

I just dont like people calling it a "pioneer" of the horror genre, and that it brought a bunch of new inovations for the horror genre.
Yea, the only thing new is the character, not a "pioneer" but they could be saying this for marketing purposes. The only thing thats "pioneering" the video game industry is the Oculus Rift.
And ♥♥♥♥♥ horror games.

Y'know, the original slender game was made as a fan game, and only people that knew about him would actually enjoy it. You obviously can't read more than 1 sentence at a time within a 2 hour interval, because you know null about the slenderman legend.

One thing I hate about these games is that it put a good creepy pasta eldritch horror into the spotlight where morons can say "LUL IT NOT SCARY, HE JUS STAND THER, DUUUUR."
And if you'd even read 1 paragrah of ANYTHING that details absolutely ANYTHING about the slenderman lore you'd start to actually learn about him rather than being one of the mass moronic sheep herd this game has created.

I swear I knew about Slenderman before the game was even viral! I just dont find him scary! Ive read things on him, Ive watched things on him, and for ♥♥♥♥♥ sake I get scared REALLY easily! This tall pedophile man who takes children away while in the forest just isnt very scary. Maybe thats just because there are people in real life that are scarier than him.
Dead Space 2? Really? It's not even a horror game; its an action game with some horror themes. Have you even played the early Silent Hills or the Resident Evil remake?
