Slender: The Arrival

A New Beginning To A New Horror Series?
In my opinion Slender The Arrival v2.0 is an amazing game, and it's one of my top 10 favorite games ever. What if this is but the dawn of the next great horror series, like Amnesia and Penumbra?

Well, to start with, the Slender Man does not belong to Blue Isle Studios. It was only with the permission of Eric "Victor Surge" Knudsen that they were even capable of really making the game (i.e. monetizing it and thus getting it on Steam) and no plans for any sequel of any kind have been announced.

Also, the Slender Man is... not particularly suited for games. This, of course, is one of the rare cases where someone can create a true adaption of the Slender Man, but it had the help of the people who created him - that would be, of course, Eric Knudsen, the creator of the first Slender Man images, Troy Wagner, Tim Sutton and Joseph DeLage, who created the webseries Marble Hornets, which inspired many others to make many, many other stories about the Slender Man, creating a massive online mythos, and of course this game. (TV Tropes has a page[tvtropes.org] about said mythos, by the way)

And then, of course, Agent Parsec created Slender: The Eight Pages and it exploded from there, though Slender is not in any way responsible for the majority of the Slender Man's popularity. Well, okay, half of it. Some. Whatever.

Again, there's no plans for a sequel, because making a third game that has the exact same gameplay - which is, as of now, the only type of gameplay the Slender Man works in - would take away any charm it has left. Besides, they can keeping adding on to it for as long as they want.

One of the things S:TA does so well though is the variation in Gameplay. Homestead was very refreshing in that it was story driven and didn't rely on collector mechanics (although I do love the collector levels). Homestead showed us that a Slender game can have more variety to it than just collect X amount of items. Also, as a huge Marble Hornets fan I loved the story in S:TA. It was "so-so" upon the initial release but once 2.0 came around, it became much more interesting with the new Homestead level. I think Blue Isle can do great things with another Slender game as long as they get their collaboraitve team back together.

Yeah, true - though the base mechanics are always the same, they figured out a few things they could do different.

That said, with regards to a sequel; I'd really rather it was always "new content updates" as opposed to "buy this new game for more stuff."

I was thinking a direct or indirect continuation of the story or Slender mythos. It would be a bit much if they added a crap ton of levels to S:TA if it were a new story on its own.
