I support buying an Unfinished game 100%
Every one should run out and buy this game that is unfinished.

I 100% support spending 40$ to 2000$ dollars on a not completed product.

It is a great gift to spend my money to help build a game in progress.

The problem about supporting Early Access game is the danger of becoming a vaporware.
Doctor G Dec 9, 2013 @ 5:03am
oh I bough some stardock products.. they are all broke, crashy, glitchy... frauds videos showing no real game play.

might as well pay good money for unfinished vaporware since refunds are not Steam's problems

I detect sarcasm? people spend alot more, on alot less, hell even alot of the so called AAA titles are utter crap. although I agree that Early access needs to be properly regulated, and assurences need to be made. afterall, this isn't kickstarter (can't say i've read the T&C) but it's made to look like you are assured the full game.

While I understand fully that developing a video game is complicated to say the least, buying into an Early Access game is a very bad idea. You're putting your money down on an unfinished product in the hopes that it'll be worth it in the end once the developer finishes it. It's essentially gambling.

The fact that this game was put on sale at all in the state that it appears to be in says a lot about the people developing it. Typically, when a developer puts a game on sale while it's in an alpha/beta state, they're unconsciously saying, "This game will never be finished because there will always be more stuff to add."

There's obviously a lot of stuff that still needs to be added to this game. Don't expect it to ever be finished.

but that's what alot of people like, a game that's always having stuff added, and although it is a gamble, on steam as with kickstarter, it's a gamble that pays off 90% of the time. alot of people like seeing a game develop, and giving their imput. who are you to tell them they're wrong in doing that?

Alright, first let's not pull percentages out of our wahzoos. I said that it was a bad idea, I never said that it was the wrong thing to do. If a person wants to go ahead and make the gamble, that's their decision. And whether or not the gamble pays off in the end is down to the person who made the bet. I'm not a gambling man and am calling attention to a very real possibility. And of course if it turns out I'm wrong and they really make a gem of a god game, you bet I'll buy it. :)

I find it strangely fitting that you use Bush as a avatar.

I really do love to support the indie game makers, even if its alpha games. But I have just never seen an indie game in alpha actually get finished. It just doesn't happen. And I've noticed that there is a big difference in game play between a finished product and work in progress. Thats not to say an unfinsihed alpha isn't fun. I really hope this game gets compleated

The good part about Early Access is, you don't really have to buy into it! I keep a skeptical stance towards developers, I don't just buy into an idea anymore. I will first see how a project is coming together and how a dev is behaving. Usually projects fall apart pretty fast when the only thing they got going for them is a neat concept.

Instant deal breakers for me and tells of a bad Early Access title are*:

1) Price higher for alpha/beta than complete game, whatever the excuse.

2) No actual game exists, basically just a tech demo.

3) Game is already in development since more than 2-3 years.

4) Stagnant updates to the game, none or little features being added, persistant bugs.

5) Developer openly incapable of taking criticism (any sort of criticism).

6) Game has a big publisher (I don't do preorders).

In the end you have to gauge how much you trust the dev's word/talent... With me you don't get to have the benefit of the doubt, it's guilty of vaporware until proven contrary. I expect a bang for my buck. Maybe kind of defeats the purpose of Early Access, but i'm protective of my wallet, and surely not on Steam to "donate" money or gamble it. Maybe this makes me guilty of entitlement, but at least i'm not being gullible.

*Not actually talking about Maia specifically, haven't really done my homework about it yet, also it looks like a case of 2) right now, that can change however, can't say about 4), you guys tell me that :)

LOL. Just... lol. Who is making you buy it? Nobody. So pointless discussion.

Hate to point this out, but all games started as an alpha lol, but i get what you mean, you have to remember, early release games to the general public is only now becoming popular, but there have been plenty of public alpha games that have gone on to be a great game, even the latest arma, even though it's still unfinished, they have everything in place but the missions, which they're bringing out like chapters, it's in a better state than most AAA titles are on release. have some faith

ok fine, if you're offended by %, ill replace it with most, happy? and for most people, a 'bad idea' IS the 'wrong thing to do', but if we're being pernickety then fine, swap those 2 things over. also wheather the gamble pays off is up to the developer in this case not the person who makes the bet :b

on a serious note, I get the risk, thats fair enough, theres always risk in life, but it's up to each individual if they take that risk, yet people keep insisting on telling them it's a 'bad idea', of course it's not, if they enjoy it and want to get involved. would be far better if these forums where full of reviews and the likes instead of trolls and moaners.

Umm Minecraft? Seems like that was an indie game in alpha that turned into a pretty finished product.
