Best way to get soil sample?

Is there an efficient way to get soil samples`? I find that digging yealds very little, or is it dependent on the planet, like do some planets drop more from digging than others`?

Its RNG based. What I found was just upgrading my tool to 3+ squares being dug up. Also planets that are not rock, sand or ice have better soil RNG.

What I have been doing is maxing out the germ catching skill, catching a bunch of purples, and using them in the chemical fertilizer machine thing + having soil fertilizer machines.

Ah, I need the soil for crafting, I usually get home with 10 soil samples if I spent the whole day digging. Ugh.
In terms of fertilizer, just as a tip, I noticed that the green microbes make the best fertilizer. it has a 70% chance for a super crop.

You can recycle (the green machine) some purple microbes (especially the soil and root bacteria) to get soil from them.
