How the Pricing Works
Hey folks,

First, we're working on making a free first episode. This is not something we've done through Steam before and episodic content is not something Steam has done a lot of. We're in virgin territory.

Grimm was originally produced as episodic content - a new 30-minute episode every few weeks. There is no "base game." And you can play every single one as a stand alone.

Pricing is as follows:

$.99 for each INDIVIDUAL episode
$9.99 for ALL episodes (found here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/252150/?snr=1_7_7_151_150_1)

We're sorry for any confusion. It is a much better deal to buy the entire series. We'll continue to smooth out the kinks as we go.

You might want to get the storepages to stop saying
"Downloadable Content

Requires the base game Grimm on Steam in order to play."

Which then links you to the complete pack.
Also episode 1 then says its a "Grimm Season One Steam Store and Retail Key Copy", for 3.99. But the info only says its episode 1, and there is no way to buy episode one separately. So its really unclear as to what is actually what :p

Chizu,

We're discussing ALL of the issues with Steam. That $3.99 episode should be free. There should also be "seasons" you can buy (8-10 episodes) that haven't appeared.

All of this has been discussed. It just needs to be corrected. And for that, we're waiting.

They're not DLCs, they're further episodes. There simply is no other way to list them in Steam.

If you buy the whole pack, you have every episode.

I like your stuff SpicyHorse, would hate to see you get ravaged by the masses for incorrect pricings and what-not, maybe that 3.99 shouldn't have been uploaded if it is supposed to be the base "free" model.

Hope you sort it soon, will look into this

what do you get 'currently' if you do end up buying the 3.99?

I would place the first episode as a kind of "Client" for free. I would not list it in the "play for free" catogery in Steam. The episodes can still be listed as DLC for the Client. It isn't new to pack DLC as a season pack, so that shouldn't be a problem. And I would add to the description that the Complete Edition includes Episodes 2-X
But I guess the Steam employes can come up with better ideas ^^

You should maybe delay the release a week until the problems are solved, so that there isn't any confusion anymore. The last thing you want is an angry community ^^
Are new episodes in development or is this just a more expensive repackage of an old game?

Neither, it's a release of an older set of games SHG did years ago on Gametap. The pricing is more of an error on Steam's part but just like they've said, you're better off buying the complete package which is way better than having to pay monthly just to play any of the episodes.

still, any chance of new development? I ask because the dev/publisher is talking to use so it might not just be a re-release. the game looks cool enough but new tales would probably put me firmly in the buy category.

You could probably do it this way:
List the game as free on Steam. The first episode is the "free" main component.
List all of the later episodes as DLC, which would require the first episode, but this would be a non-issue because the first episode is free.
List the complete pack as an alternative DLC collection that gets you all of the other DLC.

On the other hand, I'm not sure how Steam would handle launching standalone DLC.

Fire Walk with Me,

No, there is no further development for Grimm. The team that created it is no longer with us.

Lavian,

This is how it will look when all of the kinks are worked out:

1. First Episode Free
2. Single Episodes $.99
3. Three Seasons, each for $3.99
4. Entire Series, $9.99

EVERY episode is a standalone.

Thanks SHG. I'm going to research you now. Because it is a hobby. gl with the game and the future!

I looked at this and thought whaaaaat? I got the whole pack on GOG.com for $9.99 instead DRM free, its easier...controller compatible...

This is a great pricing model. People can buy parts of the game as they progress, whenever they wish. The total price does not seem exaggerated either.
I wish more games would follow this idea.

Some Telltale Adventures do so I think... Or do they just release the episodes one after another and you have to pay them all at once?

The latter. You buy A Wolf Among Us and you get all episodes. However, Walking Dead is now broken into two seasons that must be pruchased seperately.
