Unplayable Darkness
Lots of people seem to be having the same problem with the game being too dark. Most people start to see it around the silenced cathedral, some have ran into the issue earlier. Once this happens there's no way to get it back to a visible state even after rebooting. This needs to be fixed, it's unplayable.

Yes, it's actually game breaking.

And none of us mean that in the usual internet hyperbole way lol

You must rely on memory of the game and going into the spectral realm whenever possible, often times it's not possible to progress in spectral realm alone.

We need enough posts about it so the more sensitive steam users start complaining about too many posts about it, then we can have some confidence it's also been seen by those who can actually make the change.

Thats new day/night cycle they added. I'm torn between neat addition and irritating one. If there would be more torches lying around to help to see or not as dark, but then again cloudy nights are dark irl too.

I really took my time and looked around everywhere to appreciate upgrades, Raziel's lands, Melchias area and the human citidel were all fine, I can't say I even noticed the day night cycle happening over 2 hours.

The silenced cathedral is clearly bugged though, I definitely would have been through a few cycles in 2 hours already, and outside the catheral wasn't so dark, but once you enter the cathedral proper everything becomes deep black.

I can't see it as intentional, wouldn't have made it through testing lol.

Honestly, I didn't like the day and night system, they should add an option to turn it off.
Vassago Dec 11, 2024 @ 5:37am
It should be tonned down, like just have the screen become a bit darker than normal and with a bluish tint.

It's very apparent in the silenced cathedral when you have to jump between the towers. It's so dark you can't see between them. I agree with Vassage that it should be toned down.

Another form of darkness happened to me in the drowned abbey, where the level I was in dissapeard, and it was only black the torches I could see through the wall. But it fixed itself when I went through a door and back.

Edit: The Human citadel is also very dark at night, but not quite as dark.

same here.
i put in a ticket here:

the more they get, the faster they'll fix it hopefully.
Yeah, can confirm that this is a Multi-platform issue as well. Having the exact same issue on PS5 and there seems to be no specific cause for it. Both 1 and 2 are having this same issue for me. Also, I thought I'd mention I had this exact same issue with parts of Tomb Raider 3 remaster as well. I have no idea why Aspyr refuses to just add a gamma slider. Every modern game has one. I see no reason why a remaster could not include one.

Do these companies even playtest these remasters or do they just set an algorithm to work “upgrading” the textures and send them out the door? Super early game I was finding those weird bright lines where textures don’t line up properly and certain passages having this “fog” for want of a better term that pops in once you get close enough. I’m all for preserving old games for new hardware but they always seem so sloppily done and “it’ll get patched eventually” doesn’t hold much water when I have paid for the thing now. It’s like how it took the GTA Definitive Edition THREE YEARS before it felt like a finished product. Starting to wonder why we put up with it, feels like we’re unpaid playtesters at this point.

Well THIS remaster was pretty much made by fans, but it doesn't look like it was thoroughly playtested.

It’s not an ideal solution, but on PS5 if you set HDR to “always on” in your console settings it’s much easier to see what you’re doing. The colours all look horribly washed out but it’s better than Raziel’s eyes being the only light in pitch blackness like a Looney Tunes cartoon once you get to the cathedral.

I love it honestly, does not make it unplayable, makes it more immersive, how many time you've been outside IRL at night and couldn't see ♥♥♥♥ in the forest? Case close move on, (you could also just mod the game)

ah yes, I've been outside many times and "couldn't see ♥♥♥♥", so I just grab a torch or shift to the spectral realm so I can see better... just normal "immersive" IRL stuff :Mask5:

I just changed the brightness settings on my screen and kept playing till it cycled back

Seriously this needs to be fixed. The cathedral and Abby are an absolute nightmare with this. At first i thought it was something wrong with my settings then noticed this is a known problem. Still wondering how I made it through those levels. It would be one thing if i could adjust the settings in my NVIDIA control panel like other games I play with a similar issue of being to dark but because there's no graphics setting even that isn't an option
