Report a translation problem
They won't lock into place without being in the correct place. All the block puzzles in the Silent Cathedral are like that. I have been through the Cathedral about 5 times recently. The puzzles work if you solve them correctly.
On my first Remastered attempt I actually had the opposite issue than OP. The puzzle did indeed ''click'', the cutscene played, but the glass didn't shatter, so I soft-locked.
There's also some areas that didn't render properly or whatever and I fell through, which legit corrupted that save file.
SR1 requires a bit of polish. It's fantastic as a remaster in terms of QoL and graphics but, some bug-fixing wouldn't hurt.
