Ya, same'ish here. Just got the game, thought it was online coop too. Now, we also see we can't get 3 or 4 of us to play. There is not enough slots for 3 or 4 controlers on any of our computers. :steamfacepalm: Ports, sheesh.

What do you mean by "it just won't work right"? What are the specific symptoms? Thanks!

With the third controller, the buttons would not work properly, so the character would not move left, and most of the commands would not function. I have tried different controllers: generic, Xbox, wireless, etc, nothing works.

Ya, they FORCE you to all play on one computer, then you can't get more than 2 players to work with the game even if you find the space to cram 3 or 4 people around a monitor. Online is needed soooooo badly.

Hmm, that's strange. What OS are you using?

Hey I have this problem too. I'm using OSX yosemite and playing with a wireless steam controller, a wireless ps3 controller, and wired ps4 controller. The game recognizes the Steam Controller, recognizes the Ps3 controller, and identifies the PS4 controller as unidentified game pad. It also adds a 2nd "unidentified game pad" to the list of available controllers, for a total of 4 controllers being listed as connected. There are only 3 controllers in my entire house. When we try to start a 3 player game, what happens is that two of us are able to "press A" to select their character and it works fine, but one of us will always "press A" and it will activate the character select for Player 4. It doesn't seem to be consistently tied to one particular player or one particular gamepad, but there's always an extra "Player 4" activation when one of us tries to enter the game.

Update: It seems to be a moot point now because all the game does is crash on startup. We were finally able to get a game going last night but had to ditch the Steam Controller and play with PS4 controller, PS3 controller, and keyboard. Really disappointing to spend almost two hours fiddling with controllers only to end up using a keyboard, but much better than what's happening today, where the game launches to a black screen and forever-spinning "beach ball" icon, OSX identifies it as "application not responding," and I have to force-quit out of it.
