Every team member is falling asleep, and there is a coffee machine on the ship. Every minute or two, you must get coffee, or you fall asleep. And someone must make fresh coffee every once in a while. If you get sleepy, you become really slow.
Replace the Guns with small, independant starfighters. Controls would be like A to Thrust, Y to shoot, and the fighter would rotate like a miniature Jelly Roll. Dock the Fighter to get back into the ship.
Maybe the fighters could be damaged. When broken, they don't fire anymore. Dock at the station to repair.
The ship is a "Ring", gravity is excerced toward the exterior of the ring so that players eventually walk upside-down (where left is right and right is left). Every system is easy to access, being in the same "corridor", but it takes more time to cross the entire ship to get to the other side.
When a player jumps, he sticks to the ceiling instead, so left-right are inversed (might be easier/harder to navigate).
I wonder how the shields would work on that one! :-p
The ship is two small ships linked by a soft chain, or by a hard tunnel. Both have shield and propulsion units, and teleports to go from one to the other. One has radar, other haz Yamato.
Either you drive them both at the same time, or only one of them, the other one being pulled like a trailer behind a car.
Sounds like a Star Trek episode! :D
The shields are more powerful, like does short range damage (as opposed to melee), can reflect projectiles back at enemies, and/or absorb shots to heal the ship and/or fire the ships guns.
