TLDR at the end.
at 200 plus hrs, still honestly have loads of fun every play session... completely alone :D
if only there was a central server of sorts 'living, open world' all players occupied all together in 'real time'.
pve + pvp via a mashup of: Reassembly maps, factions & tournaments and Cryptark type unit loadouts for crews to use as combat squads (pvp skill) or mining squads (pve skill) while in world.
Other references include: Wayward terran frontier zero falls.
give the mechanic of your game a reason to exist. or it wont have legs. imagine gameplay where you build ships to face the things you are encoutering on the server (ref: Spore style server listed builds - you face other player creations controlled by AI) AND you have the option of the current 'arena style space battle vs the same ai & couple of enemy designs' when the servers are dead...again...still
oh, to dream... :D
at the end of the day, ship builders are cool and soldat style space battles are awesome. Great for lan parties. can easily host and join servers.
but without a story, world, and super monotonous vs AI... the legs have gone.
doomed to niche :P
my highlight:
realize you can layer LOADS of equipment over top of eachother by stacking & rotating long panels. love the 'complex', compact stuff. the resulting ultra-minigun-like railgun speeder is incredible :D
Love the game! Thank you for making it!
Sad its Dead!
so many talked of naval spam, but i never did get to see it for myself : (
The glory days were the ones in which we tried to build the fastest jets that could still carry weapons, zipping around as fast as we could and slinging missiles slower than our ships.
Shame that everything became spaced armor + boosted packet spam, followed by mastermind breaking the playerbase.
I'm creating a group to organize the playerbase of Gimbal and other games. We'll hold events and gather players so games can be played.
I'll send out invites as soon as I get things set up.
