Mana Heater Quest
5 hours and 10 minutes in, I went to Ishk, and I talked to the guy near the heater. He said it'll last a couple of hours. I then immediately went to talk with Claudia in Hrukk, who gave me the Spare Heater Core (dead), which has an inventory description at the bottom of the page. I dropped by the Library at this point, to check something out. After using Thunder Struck to charge it, the on-screen prompt told me that I received Spare Heater Core (charged), which does NOT have a description at the bottom of the page. So I went back to Hrukk, which, turns out, was evacuated (?). No people inside it, mana heater broken, no available promps, nobody to talk to, and I'm taking damage from the cold. This is 5h15m in the game.

What now?

Did you retry a lot?

I did no actual retries. I quit and loaded the game a few times, however.

Mmm, where were you, main quest-wise? You got the Divine Dust, I guess, but what about Mark of Valdis, or reaching the Sanctuary? Did you open the divine door in the Library?

Hooo, maybe that's it...did you get the Divine key before trying to recharge the core?

I went to the heater guy in the same trip to Hrukk as when I got the Divine Key (the one for the Library). I didn't actually use it, however. The village evacuating could be tied to getting the Divine Key, but that would be oh so arbitrary.

Well, I assume the villagers will indeed leave if you didn't fix the mana heater before getting the Divine Key.

As for being arbitrary,... In the previous versions, there was no other way to save them than finishing the game under 7 hours (not very difficult when you know the game well, but oh so much more arbitrary in my book)

That may have been arbitrary as well, but it was at least mentioned by the heater guy that it would last 2 hours. Now it just breaks *because I got the Divine Key*. RIght now, I don't even have the option of finishing the game within 2 hours to save them. This bummed me out so badly, it might be the first metroidvania that I drop mid-run.

You would miss ton of replay value. And you're almost at the end anyway! Do not bother with things you miss on your first run, it's almost unavoidable, and in the long run, it really doesn't matter.

With a little practice, you can get S rank both in combat and in adventure without too much trouble.

I'm bothering with editing the save game now. Trying to find the divine key and remove it.
myhr2 Dec 5, 2013 @ 11:32am
Well, you could do that, but...wouldn't it be best to just finish the game and do another playthrough? You're 30 minutes away from the end, max!

My OCD won't let me.

I hope it'll work for you then, even if I somehow doubt it. (not sure if removing the Divine key will miraculously make the villagers come back)

Solved it.

Make sure you charge the core before you talk to the guy near the heater.

Just wanna thank you for sharing this. I just had the same problem today, the main reason I needed the villagers back was because I wanted an accessory I couldn't get because of a lack of sapphires. This save edit worked like a charm, so thx again.
