If you're not planning to use spells much, then the rest could go in the defense tree, with the Templar skill in mind, for some godly block.
King Purgatory + Goibniu armor are the no brainers. But you can also take a look at things like Gladiator or Dreadnaught, or even Grey armor! As for accessory, in my opinion, Highlander's fits better to an hybrid build, because it also increases Magic attack. But it certainly can be used as pure STR. Other choices would be Heavy bracers for moar Attack goodness or Tunnel's vision for...moar Attack goodness! Also...try Ninja scroll with the Parry skill...granted, it doesn't work against every ennemy or Boss, but when it does, it destroys them. Like in : "ho, I thought Gernot gained a second and a third hit after his charge when he gets low in health, but since I always counter his charge in the first place, he hasn't the time to attack...Poor guy..."
I think the important thing you have to decide after your Stat template is what affinity you want to use. If you want Neutral, it will not be difficult since most top Pure STR options are neutral (King, Goibniu, Gladiator, Heavy bracers,...) Dark affinity can give you some serious Life leech ability, Bloodcrest letter or Necronomicon, Dreadnaught, Bolverk assist, some Dark spells equipped, and you should be good to go. Light affinity is trickier, but since it gives Armor as a Str user, it's not that great.
Finally, even if you plan to not use much magic, there are spells you should consider using for utility. Warp Blade is awesome with level 3 Void in those builds. Lightning reach is great. Try to consider using Side and Air spells for combo purpose. In that regard, I highly recommand level 3 Holy magic and...Holy wisp! Yes, that spell sucks at level 1, but at level 3, well, that's a very different story. So, if I were you, I'd upgrade Holy and Void Magic to level 3, and Fire Magic to level 2.
Even as a pure STR, I would still recommand to use and abuse spells, as their utility is just enormous : long range, guard break, longer combo enabler. And Warp Blade will make your heavy attacks hits very very hard, tested and approved!
Now that's the reasoning I've followed, and I did several pure STR builds with great success. The only thing to remember is to look for synergies, and make good uses of those Purgatory Heavy attacks. Good luck for your build, and make sure to tell us how it went. =)
Yeah, looking at the skill tree I came to the same conclusion with taking almost all Warior path and putting the rest in Guardian.
As for the armor, I've thought about Drednaught too, but I would also consider other options you listed. I'm not really used to heavy sword attacks after playing several games with bow, so it's better to wait a bit into the game before making a choice.
Affinity... Well, it maybe personal, but I'd like to build Dark. I also like using both Bloodcrest and Bolverk :) And thanks for listing some magic possibillities. It's always been a pain for me to choose upgrades.
Ok, I'm going to spend some time thinking through it. I'll post my results some other time, if the build turns out to be good.
What I do for all my builds is break it down to basics.
Step 1: Melee/Magic/Hybrid. All players should be using magic for weapon buffs, but I mean actually using magic.
Step 2: Pick your affinity and know what the bonuses are. For example Str on light side will boost your armor, Neutral boosts Armor Ruin, and Dark boosts life leech.
Step 3: Weapon/Armor selection: This becomes an issue as you're playing the game. You can hold out on upgrades until you get most of the armor so you can make your decision later in the game. If your magic, I recommend going Mage Blade Puragotry. Crit - Bow, Str - Any.
So in your potential Dark Wyatt build, you could go a variety of different ways. Str/Agi, Str/Int, or Str/Luck hybrid builds imo are the best. Pure Str/Agi/Luck builds work too tho. I find hybrids to do the most damage along with being the most fun to play.
If Dark, for Str/Agi just bring your Agi to around 22ish with end game with gear. This will give you around 95+% crit chance and basically every hit will crit and you get the maximum amount of life leech bonus from putting the rest into Str. Dreadnaught armor would be the best if you mastered parry. Otherwise I'd use Goibnu for the bonus focus time and every attack breaks guard. Your Agi will be pretty high still so your focus time will be longer than normal. As for a weapon this build can use any as long as it's specced in the darkside. Max the whole warrior tree and everything else in guardian. Don't forget to use magic for weapon buffs even if they are level 1 it's still a significant difference in your damage output.
Dark Str/Int build would be way better imo. Int and Str dark affinity leeches mana and hp. Go dual swords for maximum effect. Bring your Int/Str to 20 each and I'm pretty sure that's the max bonus for leeching. Put the last few points into Agi. You will be a leeching machine with powerful spells and buffs with a major crit about 30%+ of the time. I'd go Fire/Void or Dark/Void for a pure dark Wyatt. The jump Void spell when maxed is crazy powerful and is why I suggest you take Void regardless with this build. There's not really armor made for the build imo, but the Deadman's Fury comes close as it boosts Int/Str and will grant your attacks a fire buff and +30% crit damage when your fury is maxed. I originally hated the dual swords, but in a STR leech build you can actually have fun with it and works very well with this setup. EDIT: Forgot to mention, take the whole darkside of magic tree, take the 1st 3 powers in the defensive tree, and put the rest into the warrior tree!
I have plenty more builds but I'll stop at those 2. Have fun!
