She ate the freakin' chocolates
My princess: military protegy, poison expert, winner of a civil war, corpse. Why? She ate the freakin' chocolates.

I don't blame her. I would have eaten the chocolate too.
Dude free chocolate.

Most likely, her poison skill wasn't high enough although there are other ways to get past the chocolate.

The ways she can avoid eating the chocolates are either sad or hilarious, depending on how you have her do it.

Or dogs.

I nuked the poison trait, well, the whole branch really. There are a lot of ways to avoid death by chocolate. I just want my princess to be a magical girl of love and justice.

My first playthough I passed that scenario, feels so good. Too bad I didn't do any of the magic storyline and gone destroyed. D:

I like how "Sometimes, you'll fail at challenges for no good reason, despite heavily investing in the relevant skills" is basically what one of the review blurbs on the store page says. Because nothing makes me want to buy a game more than the most positive quote about it being "guys this is kind of dumb".

You don't fail checks "for no good reason" her stats weren't high enough.

I've never managed to eat the chocolates yet, there are so many checks to avoid it it seems. You must have got really unlucky with your choices for skilling up.

You'd actually be surprised. When you're going for a nearly perfect ending, this check is one of the biggest pains in the game. It has a lot of checks to pass it, but none of those are the small checks you need to make for some of the early on harder checks that are relevant to your ending (except maybe the economics check). So, if you actually want to be a politically saavy princess that maintains some level of control over your kingdom, you'll probably fail this. Also, if you aim for the combat and military route, she's bound to fail it as well.

On most normal playthroughs, you're going to pass this one, but once you're trying for specific endings, this check becomes the bane of your existence.

Even after over a year of playing those chocolates still kill me more than anything because I just forget about them when trying for certain paths (and you can't go "crap, I forgot about this" and avoid it like many other deaths).

Hum, maybe I got lucky myself then. I pretty much always level court manners since it seems so essential in keeping nobles happy. What kind of run is it that you consider a perfect one? I can get through the game with no uprisings but I've never outright won the naval battle yet without resorting to triple magic.
