crash: combat stuck
I was in a battle with murphy's ghost, I chose my actions, hit confirm, and it sat there, still playing the music, doing nothing. I was able to view the enemy card, toggle health bars, and access the esc menu, but the combat was stopped in its tracks and would not progress

Its an old bug. I just avoided that room from now on. So far it doesn't impede your progress.
8/8 the game has done this for me. It happens when one of my character misses.
It seems this bug has been around since the update that introduced fast combat. I wish they would just allow players the option to turn off animations all together and adjust speed from 1-5000 as the original mechanics of this game had!
But what do we do if we have the bug? The game won't let you quit, so you have to shut down the app. How much progress do you lose?
save before going into murphy's room. it it freezes load the save and continue past the room without fighting murphy
This is a hard crash that was the result of the last update (Aug 2024) that needs to be fixed! There is also a reordering party Tavern bug that has not been fixed in the last couple updates that is also a hard crash. Unlike Digital Eclipse's typical arcade remakes, turn based RPG's actually need more TLC with many more updates to keep things running smooth. They really need to be more responsive with bug fixing updates and not wait over half a year to fix hard crashes in this game...
Btw... when you get a combat freeze up... you close the game / app using Task Manager. Then load up and you'll be in the room you were before going into combat. The spells you used previously will be used up still. You're not reloading from before the combat... unless you're doing manual save manipulation. So, just something to keep in mind. I kept going into Murphy's combat and realized I had no spell points left... oops! lol

Thanks. That's basically what I have to do too. But being a game maker and app builder myself, it's frustrating to see the devs not fixing hard game crashes in a timely manner. Alas it seems they are stretched thin trying to spend all their time on other upcoming retro arcade games and Wizardry has been put on the back burner...very disappointing!
Also, from my observations... it seems like that freeze during combat mostly happens if you have 'fast combat' mode enabled. When I turn that off, I rarely ever get the freeze. And, a lot of times it may freeze 'temporarily' but then continues on it's own... unless I have fast combat mode enabled. Just something to check... see if it resolves it for others also.

Good observation. The freeze bug was definitely created by the update that introduced fast combat mode. The devs just need to allow animations to be shut off with combat speed options as the original mechanics of the game allowed instead of adding the extra step of having the scripts looking for fully identified monster groups to trigger fast mode options.
