Old Maps?
I've got a binder on the shelf with old Wizardry 1 maps I made in the early 80's. I'm wondering if I can use them.
Are the floor layouts the same as the original, or are they completely new?

I've only been down to floor 3, at least that far the maps are exactly as I remember them.

Kinda wondering about this too -- the dungeon in Wizardry 1 always seemed very unfinished, as there wasn't really any meaningful content on floors 5 through 9 -- and form what I remember, the stuff on floors 2 and 3 didn't matter -- save for a few floor panels that never did anything. I wonder if that'll be more fleshed out, assuming the original layouts are kept?

I have all my graph paper maps in a folder. Looking forward to breaking them out.

So far three floors in they're still the same. I still remember them. Can't find my hand drawn maps but all seems the same.

Yeah all the floors are the same. I believe they also have the three NES specific floors as well. I think only a couple of staircase locations are different.

Everything is re-captured faithfully on the maps with a few minor exceptions where they may have re-positioned a staircase or moved/removed a "turntable" or "teleport".

That being said the developers did create three brand new maps for floors 6, 7 and 8. I am in the process of mapping those now, myself.

I believe that they turned this feature on by default to play with these alternative maps but did provide a workaround in a different thread if you had started with the original maps prior to the change and need to load them back. I have not gone back to my older saves yet where I was playing with the original maps to see how the update impacted those original saves.

Honestly, I can't say for sure since I only dabbled with the NES version of the game. My assumption was that these maps were custom-built, but that might have been a misjudgment.

What I can confirm is that the Fire Dragon on Floor 7 has been relocated to an area with only one exit leading to Floor 8. This area also contains at least two pits that inflict significant damage, as I discovered while mapping. Tried to head down to Floor 8, but didn't make it back in one piece. Had to start over, losing a bunch of progress. Still, better than the alternative.

While I haven't finished mapping out the area with the Fire Dragon on Floor 7, I've decided to prioritize mapping Floor 8 to ensure I can navigate to the elevator before being forced to take the stairs down from the Fire Dragon's territory.

These three new maps have presented a satisfying challenge, and my aim is to share all my maps with the community, including the alternate versions once they're completed.

Based on this thread, it appears that those three maps on 6, 7, and 8 are based on the console version of the game.

When they released these console maps in release .4 they overtook the OG maps as the default maps for the game. Per the article, this was not the intention. The devs provided some instructions on how to invoke the OG maps during launch with the use of parameters.

When the 1.0 release comes out there wiil be a GUI option at launch that will allow you to choose between the OG maps or the console maps.

Hope this helps.
