What happened to Ninja?
I used to be able to roll a Ninja at the beginning. Why is it no longer listed?

This game has the original 1980's Apple II code. So the highest you can roll in character creation is a 29. That unfortunately means you can't start with a ninja or lord and have to switch to that class later.

the thieves knife will also change your class to Ninja,

:) because no real ninja would ever tell you they are a ninja. they are the cable guy, the health inspector, the felafel vendor. it's a secret.
that reason doesn't work for lords. those guys are all ego.

the PC version allowed you to roll high numbers and get lords and ninjas but that came later after the apple version that this is based on.

Which PC version is that? Both of the ones I have are capped at 29 as well.

Not trolling, genuinely curious.

I think it was the NES/SNES versions of the game. I have several varieties of the IBM/PC versions, and have never been able to roll high enough for Lord or Ninja.

I was able to roll a Lord on the SNES version of Wiz 5, bit it took a long time and that was the only time I recall being able to do it.

it has been a while since then. I may have exploited a bug in the game but I was always able to start with lords and ninjas. I remember rolling 69s and 72s.

I was able to roll those values in this game many versions ago, before the character creation redesign, and I had a starting Ninja.

Right, the cap is 29 now, and I, too, remember falling off my couch at a roll of 72 back in the day. At least I didn't trance through it. I plowed right past my 29 on my third roll in this game. :steamfacepalm:

I'm not talking decades ago - I literally mean this Steam port of the game, I was able to roll a starting Ninja, and this most recent change they made to the GUI has made that impossible. Rolling insanely high numbers was always possible before whatever changes they made some months ago.
