Wait why can Priest wear Plate Mail +2?!?

So I'm confused... Priests can only wear normal armor up to Breastplate.

They can't wear Plate Mail, they can't wear Plate Mail +1, but I accidentally noticed this morning that they CAN wear Plate Mail +2... which is obviously a massive upgrade over a Breastplate +2. Wearing the Plate Mail +2 I went back and checked... and yep, he STILL can't wear the regular Plate Mail or Plate Mail +1.

Was this bug in the original?

This was part of the original game believe it or not. This made plate +2 even more glorious to find. As a kid who plated lots of D&D I chalked it up to "maybe plate +2 is much lighter then plate +1, thus the priest can still maneuver properly to cast and dispel..." Or maybe just a bug from the original creators...

can't they wear all the breastplates? i felt those served well until there were more +2 plates than fighters.
