I hope you plan to do the other Wizardry games as well.
I have been a fan of Wizardry for many years, I first played proving grounds on an Apple IIe computer back in the 80's and played all of them as they came out. No one seems to be making these kind of dungeon crawlers any more and they are my favorite type of game. I hope you revamp the entire series.

People actually are still making these kinds of games. Go check out Dungeon Crawlers[dungeoncrawlers.org] for a pretty comprehensive list. They have an active Discord to talk about this genre as well.

The Darkness Below looks like a blend of Lands of Lore and Might and Magic 3 to 5. Even the UI is similar, with character portraits lined up at the bottom and the automap on the right upper quadrant. And Dawn of the Ashen Queen looks kind of like Might and Magic X. Meanwhile, Legends of Amberland looks like Might and Magic 2.

I'm looking forward to this one a lot: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2513200/Mystic_Land_The_Search_for_Maphaldo/

It feels much like a homage to the later Wizardry games and that suits me just fine. Should hopefully be out sometime this year too!

I'd like to see this to. Despite other games coming out that take their inspiration from Wiz and EoB, there's still nothing quite like those originals.

What would even be cooler would be importing your adventurers from the first three scenarios into Wiz 4, as the enemy adventurers. Something that Sir-Tech had done when creating that game. They had saved characters from disks people had sent in for troubleshooting and put them in the 4th game, so people could conceivably come across their own characters while playing as Werdna.

I would still like to see a proper sequel come about as well. It's been 22 years since 8 was released. Out of curiosity, how did the team working on this manage to get the IP? Last I knew the rights were languishing in Japan.

I would also love this.

It doesn't even seem like an impossible ask, as the first five Wizardry games all used the same graphics and the same game engine. Once the developers are done with Wizardry 1's remake, they'll have finished much (though not all) of the work they'd need to "authentically" remake the next four games, too.
This is a great start to the series. As long as they get part 1 completed, the template's there to make 2,3,4. I never played 5 but can't wait to start playing 6 and 7 again. 8 was okay but felt a little detached from the previous versions.
7 was epic on such a grand scale at the time on my first owned 286 PC with only 1mb base memory lol.
And yes to being allowed to import parties from previous version saves like the original. Why not?

When the Sirotek family sold the IP to Gamepot, it only included the rights and trademarks to the name and Wizardry 6-8 (Dark Savant Series). The original five games created by Sir-Tech remained with the Sirotek family.

GMO later acquired Gamepot, leading to the company's transition to GMO/Gamepot. Eventually, when Wizardry Online shut down globally, the IP and trademarks for Wizardry were sold to Drecom Co., Ltd.

Though simplified, Digital Eclipse had to secure the rights to the original code for "Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord" from the Sirotek family, now operating under a new company called SirTech Entertainment Corp. Additionally, negotiations with Drecom Co., Ltd. were necessary for the rights to use the Wizardry name.

The titles Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge, Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant, and Wizardry 8 were part of the IP sale and have been re-released on Steam. They're currently available in the store, with Drecom Co., Ltd. listed as the publisher.

In the game credits, you'll notice Drecom Co., Ltd. identified as the trademark holder, with Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord licensed to Digital Eclipse by SirTech Entertainment Corp.

I would like to see a fully overhauled remake of Wizardry 8.

Yes, so would I. Wiz 8 is arguably the best RPG of all time. Updating the graphics, fixing some broken/incomplete quests, etc. would be amazing.

WIz8 was really, really fun, but I liked M&M 6 a bit more. The combat on M&M 6 was quite entertaining, had an arcade like feel to it after arming everyone with bows.

Thanks for the info!

I remember picking up 6 and 7 a few years back on GoG, and have a few of the Japanese game boy games from way back when. Good to know the full story now, and have something updated to play. WO never hit the mark for me. Too much of the Eastern influence for my liking, but was sad to see it go nonetheless.
