Better Gear

hy first of all, i love the game even it came out 6 years before me^^

now to my question.
iam at floor 5 now and until now i found about 6 items in chests and only 2 were upgrades.
how do i get better gear as in weapons with better hit or is the item system in this game
more like a +1 is the best and you have to play better?

Floor 7's Red Dragon has the best and fastest high-level drops in the game. After that, Floor 9 starts giving you +2 gear on the regular and you'll get top-tier loot from enemies #81 and beyond.

agree floor 7 will crank out +1 weapons and occasional +2 plate

Not just any enemies, there is a set encounter on Floor 7 with a single Fire Dragon at coordinates 2E 9N. That enemy is in the #81+ range and drops the best tier of gear in the game including Muramasa and Thieves' Dagger and Robe of Lords, while having far higher drop rates for +2 gear and Vorpal Blade and other middle-tier items. You can reset the fight by leaving the level and coming back (you can Malor up and back down, or run to the nearby stairway, and it's infinitely faster than farming Floor 10 because Fire Dragons are really easy to kill.) Other Floor 7 enemies only drop the lower tiers of gear.

I was able to finish the game with mostly +1 gear and only found shortswords as +2 weapons for my front row after farming floor 9 for 2 hours. Honestly, it doesn't even matter, magic carries end game far more than any melee even will.
