Kind of. I had a priest as my third in the front row. So replacing him with an actual melee damage dealer was nice. Ninja is strong but tbh another fighter/lord/samurai would have worked just as well. The only benefit is that its decent for traps while being miles better than thief in combat.

Agreed. They do show up in the tavern and they are far better than a thief ASSUMING you have a priest or bishop or lord to cast Calfo on chests - ninjas get to 100% accurate on disarms but my level 40 one still only identifies traps at about 75% correct (which is of course unacceptable). And if you find a Shuriken, they rule in combat (better than a lord or fighter with a Vorpal blade in my party, though of course inferior to samurai with a Muramasa).
