*?Spoiler* Does this old grind run still work?
Per the above

1) Farm level 1 for creeping coins (are they in this version of the game?) and general grinding

2) Take Level 1 elevator to level 4

3) More grinding --> Get 2 mages to level 10 or 11 for the spell level 5 instakill fog spell

4) Run to second elevator go to the bottom floor

5) Farm poison giants with instakill fog spell and teleport back (can be done with parties of 3 if you're creating multiclasses e.g. mage 12 / priest 12 + fighter/ninja/samurai /lord X

6) Murder Werdna

Should I still consider starting the game a front line only? e.g. 2 fighters and 1 priest getting them to level 3 (for faster levelling grind), then rolling the full team of 6, so you have a sturdy front line

Is using only spells to heal so only your healer ages / loses VIM not your entire party still a good strategy?

Creeping coins are on level 2, not 1, but farming them does indeed work.
However, in the Apple version of the game which was the basis for this one, you can't run from encounters on floor 10, so farming poison giants is unsafe; your best bet will instead to be farming floor 8 (still with the spell mentioned).

Earth Giants on floor 8 are excellent safer farming then poison giants.

small groups can level just by safely grinding murphy. level 4 grinding helps shake up the boredom. sometimes you can grind 8, 9, and 10. sometimes they can grind you. unless your saves make the adventure risk free, i suppose.

I thought farming the ghosts on level 1 was the go to start strat.

Still good if you have the patience for it. The lack of being able to speed up combat while having to endure the time consuming animations makes it less useful.

Agreed. The novelty of the animations wears off quickly. Having become accustomed to how quickly combat moves in an SNES emulator, it is trying how long the same battle in this game drags on.

Devs, be so kind and let me grind, would you?

I just fought 3 rows of Creeping Coins on the second floor and it took forever for them to finish their pretty, swirling attacks. I cast some unnecessary Daltos just to speed things along.

I remember thinking creeping coins took too long in the original 80's version. I have a new perspective now. I'm guilty of just hitting them with mahalito just to get things moving. :)

Are earth giants really on floor 8? I can't find them on an online search shows floor 7. Can't seem to find them on either floor.

Creeping Coins animations and Murphy's Ghost animations are definitely cool, but it's a bit much now that I've seen it a 1000 times over. Ha! At least if I could hit the spacebar like the old game to skip to the end of the round, that would be nice. I'm still having fun though.

Yes, can confirm that they are on Floor 8. In fact, I've not seen them anywhere else.

I have seen Earth Giants on 7 and 9 as well.
