Blade Cuisanart still in the game?
Hi all, just started up Wizardry and haven't played a full playthrough since the early 80's. I'm curious if "Blade Cuisanart" was in this version of the game. I remember in my original playthrough, 41 years ago, that weapon changed the entire dynamic of my offense. Is it still in the game and not made some super rare drop or something?

If its in the game I haven't run into one yet, and I have almost 300 hours on this game!

It should be since the original code is there. I've noticed gold after battles is now rounded up by 10 which was not in the original game, so hopefully treasure type drops have not been manipulated or broken...from what I've seen thus far (maze levels 1-4) the chest treasure finds seem normal.
If my memory serves right (granted 40 years ago and I'm an old fart) treasure chests from a flack, zombie dragons and greater demons were best bets. Also level 10 fighters maybe?

It is in the game but I believe it is called Vorpal Blade now

The page is in Japanese, but easy to translate through your browser with about 90% accuracy. There's also a "Drop Tables" guide by the user Funding right here on the Steam page.

The floors are correct, but the only thing that's counted is can the monster be the primary encounter, it doesn't look at friends, or friends of friends (or friends of friends of friends).

So orcs appear as a primary encounter on floor 1, and they show up as friends of friends on floor 2 (level 1 priests -> rogue -> orc), and they show up as friends of friends of friends on floor 3 (level 3 priests -> level 1 priests -> rogue -> orc), but only the primary encounter determines what loot is dropped. The only encounter that I've seen be wrong is that I've never seen highwaymen appear without mages, even though they're listed as a floor 2 monster.

Yeah, those are all fairly rare encounters. If you've gotten level 1 ninjas on floor 2 then I would say that those are equally as rare.

This is correct. I'm guessing it's a copyright issue, similar to the use of Halfling vs Hobbit. I have two Vorpa Blades now. I finally got a Muramasa Blade, which eluded me the longest. In fact, I had found the Thieves Dagger and Shuriken's before the Muramasa Blade. I'm hoping to find another Muramasa Blade but doesn't look like it's in the cards.

Per that drop table the Shuriken's drop from the Greater Demons and they are freakin' deadly as all get out. I usually lose most of my party in battles with them. Especially if their are other groups of monsters with them.

It definitely can be a grind.

I recall getting vorpal blades before AND the Blade Cuisinart. It was a nice blade. The Bishop going in alone, surviving and resting trick does not seem to work ( +1 million xp on the Apple II) , but somehow I did gain levels by hitting the red level indicator in town at one point. It only seemed to work once. I only did a few levels. I should have been more greedy as I then had a TPK on level 3.

I never even tried the 1 million XP trick with my bishop in this new version. It happened when you tried to identify item #9 which didn't exist

I have a ton of hours logged in this new release and have not gotten the Blade of Cuisinart (BoC). That’s not to say I haven’t just been unlucky but when I did get the Vorpal Blade (VB) I suspected that it was the replacement name for the BoC and so I looked up the stats of the old BoC and it matches exactly the stats of the VB.

On a side note. On at least one of the versions of this game I could swear I remember it being spelled “Cusinart” instead of “Cuisinart”. I always thought that was done on purpose in the later revisions to avoid copyright violations with the Cuisinart company. Hoping someone can confirm that here.

There are several topics on the forum here about this, and this was raised in one of them. I also assume the intentional "Cusinart" "misspelling" was due to the fear of lawyers. Apparently lawyers are even scarier these days if they've fully converted to "Vorpal" - until George Foreman releases a "Vorpal Grill".
Thanks for confirming Mike.

Well, I finally found the Vorpal Blade on level 8 and not sure what dropped it. I'm mad at myself for not paying attention to that. I didn't fight any Vorpal bunnies. I don't know.
Regardless, the weapon simply rocks!
