If my memory serves right (granted 40 years ago and I'm an old fart) treasure chests from a flack, zombie dragons and greater demons were best bets. Also level 10 fighters maybe?
The floors are correct, but the only thing that's counted is can the monster be the primary encounter, it doesn't look at friends, or friends of friends (or friends of friends of friends).
So orcs appear as a primary encounter on floor 1, and they show up as friends of friends on floor 2 (level 1 priests -> rogue -> orc), and they show up as friends of friends of friends on floor 3 (level 3 priests -> level 1 priests -> rogue -> orc), but only the primary encounter determines what loot is dropped. The only encounter that I've seen be wrong is that I've never seen highwaymen appear without mages, even though they're listed as a floor 2 monster.
This is correct. I'm guessing it's a copyright issue, similar to the use of Halfling vs Hobbit. I have two Vorpa Blades now. I finally got a Muramasa Blade, which eluded me the longest. In fact, I had found the Thieves Dagger and Shuriken's before the Muramasa Blade. I'm hoping to find another Muramasa Blade but doesn't look like it's in the cards.
Per that drop table the Shuriken's drop from the Greater Demons and they are freakin' deadly as all get out. I usually lose most of my party in battles with them. Especially if their are other groups of monsters with them.
It definitely can be a grind.
I never even tried the 1 million XP trick with my bishop in this new version. It happened when you tried to identify item #9 which didn't exist
I have a ton of hours logged in this new release and have not gotten the Blade of Cuisinart (BoC). That’s not to say I haven’t just been unlucky but when I did get the Vorpal Blade (VB) I suspected that it was the replacement name for the BoC and so I looked up the stats of the old BoC and it matches exactly the stats of the VB.
On a side note. On at least one of the versions of this game I could swear I remember it being spelled “Cusinart” instead of “Cuisinart”. I always thought that was done on purpose in the later revisions to avoid copyright violations with the Cuisinart company. Hoping someone can confirm that here.
Regardless, the weapon simply rocks!
