Light spells?
Apparently Cleric light spells reveal hidden doors. However, I found a hidden door on floor 1 and cast this spell and it didn't seem to change anything. How do these spells work, exactly?

With Milwa or Lomilwa you'll see evidence of a hidden door (shimmering brick illusion). If you already knew it was there you could open the door even without the visual clue.

Ah, I see. So these spells aren't very useful. You need to be looking directly at the wall apparently. I was hoping it would just colorize the walls so it would be obvious. Thanks.

Well the shimmering effect *could* be defined as obvious. You can see it shimmering on the sidewall as you pass by, you don't necessarily HAVE to face the wall to see it.

Yeah, you're right, after actually using the spell it IS pretty obvious. It's great for casting, walking down a hallway, and pausing after every step to make sure there aren't any hidden doors. Sure beats pressing A against every wall in the game like other dungeon crawlers.

Do you happen to know if there's any indicator as to when a Light spell is active? Thanks again for the responses.

Well if you have the old school text window overlay, it should list current active party spells like: Light, Protect.
However there are some bugs where it won't list ALL the party spells that are active. Other than that, how far you can see down the halls is also an indicator of a light spell. If you can only see a few steps, no light, if you can 5 or 6 steps forward, you have a light spell

I can see the shimmering bricks even without casting the milwa or lomilwa spells. Is this one of the options in the menu which can be turned off? I like the feature, but I think it does than make the 2 light spells pretty useless.

Even without a light spell, there is a small chance your party will see a secret door. With a light spell the chance is 100% and you can see further ahead. For me, milwa is not worth it since it takes away a point for healing (dios) and doesn't last the entire time. Lomilwa is more worth it since it last the whole expedition but it does cost a point you could use to un-paralyze someone (dialko). Light definitely comes in handy when getting lost, spun around or teleported by a chest trap. Seeing those extra few steps ahead can be the difference between finding a way home or become fertilizer in the maze! :)

Agreed with everything Wizard stated above. I did want to add that if you go into darkness you lose your light spell, so if you know you are going to use the elevator on the 1st floor (accessible through darkness) do not waste casting Lomilwa before going through the darkness.

One final thing I will say is that I found once I had the entire maze mapped by hand and was referencing those as needed, I no longer needed to use Lomilwa because I had discovered and documented all of the secret doors. This is a benefit of mapping. If you are relying on the in-game maps with Dumapic you may find a need to continue to use Lomilwa, particularly if you are looking for a hidden door. Just an added benefit to mapping yourself (or downloading maps others created).
