Fighter Classes attacking from the back row?
I'd like to see the Fighter classes attack from the back row, since Monster's 2 and 3 rows deep can! Anyone agree?

That would make the game too easy.

I also agree that it would make the game too easy. It also goes against the core function of the Wizardry games. That being said, eventually they did introduce ranged weapons and classes that could attack from the back row in later games.

Also, if I remember correctly, I think Ninjas can use the shurikens from the back row.

Perhaps they could add this is as optional functionality for the game but I do not think that it should be altered permanently.

Sadly, the shurikan is a melee weapon and thus only functions in one of the first 3 slots of characters.

Read that somewhere else after I posted this and was like... Damnit! Oh well. Still love the game.

The later games in the series had weapons the back rows could use. Long polearms and ranged weapons. Wizardry V heart of the maelstrom for example.
Those games were designed with those weapons in mind, though. Adding them retroactively to games not designed for them would be what causes the imbalance. Compare enemy HP values in Wizardry to their counterparts in Wizardry V and you'll see what I mean.

Then...what's the point of having a back row? You don't have unlimited magic to use. "Too easy?" I've been surprised by a group that killed 2-3 party members from FULL HEALTH. Have a damage penalty...at least the back row can do SOMETHING other than wasting a spot.

Thieves at least have some functionality from the back, as this remaster, like the SNES version, included Wizardry 5's option to hide and sneak attack. I personally would not be against the back line having missile weapons, in the spirit of a "remake", but some purists would disagree and would prefer that the game remain more of a "remaster".

You know, I get having 3 people out of a 6 person party should be able to attack a monster party in a 10 x 10 space. But said 10 x 10 space has can also have 4 Werebears, 6 Vorpal Rabbits, and 8 Coyotes all able to attack them. And my front row can attack whichever or the 4 enemy rows they want to *shrugs*.

Wizardry 8 addressed this annoyance with slings. Loved my rock throwing back row!

Translation:

"But said 10 x 10 space can also have 4 Werebears, 6 Vorpal Rabbits, and 8 Coyotes, all of which can attack your front 3 characters. Your front row, in turn, can attack any of the 4 enemy rows".

The implication here is that rules are uneven. Only your front 3 characters can physically attack but any of your enemies can physically attack those 3 no matter what row they're in. On the other hand, your front 3 can also attack any enemy row without restriction.
