The HD version is still somewhat disappointing though, as whilst it's much zippier than the iOS version and the alien races do prove more challenging, there are still AI tweaks and skill balancing required to make it the challenge it should be. My colleague Tom has just reviewed it:

And a Knockout tournament mode, like in the original, is something I would dearly like to have seen implemented!
Evolution graphics looks like original more than HD . Maybe they will implement it as an option .

Graphics, yes. Gameplay (the most important aspect of why Brutal Deluxe is amazing), much less so than the HD version. You need to get beyond what something looks like and judge on how it plays! ;0)
It doesn't play well either, since it's way too easy and offers little challenge.
And how are we not supposed to expect decent graphics (at least not terrible) in a HIGH DEFENITION remake of a classic? It should at least have graphics that are on par with the original?
Think league is the one where you just manage the team i.e handle their gear, cybernetics and buy new players whilst the cpu plays the actual match.
I'd kind of want to get this version but then, just like with chaos engine before it which i did go for, there don't appear to be usb versions of the rotterdam arcade stick and it is a bit silly on my end as there's a functional amiga in the room...
Surely you can get an adapter for the Atari port joysticks to USB?
What about this one?

But you probably want to do some reading on this board before you make your mind up about getting this version, and check out the TotalBiscuit review.

Rofl why is the ball so huge when it goes up in the air - also it falls much faster than it rises, which is not proper physics and so is very offputting when trying to track the ball.
Here is what the original looks like - the art style is so much more consistent:

... and the ball only goes huge on the initial *power* launch.
Difficult?
I find it REALLY easy. Amiga version was much more difficult...
1. You get to play a completely maxed out team early in the second season when you still have pitiful stats. This after completely steamrolling every team in the first season with 100-200 points per match all of a sudden it is almost impossible to tackle the oponent and they are almost twice as fast, then it does get a bit of a challenge.
2. As I just did... You get in a Brutal Deluxe vs. Brutal Deluxe match, both wearing the exact same outfits and with the same stats making it IMPOSSIBLE to tell them apart, then when the match is over the game crashes.
After playing for 2 hours and winning all but those 2 matches, the game crashing and me having eye strain from the jerky graphics due to a really low framerate I have only one thing to say:
This game SUUUUUUUUCKS! I want my money back. I bought over a hundred games on Steam, some impulse buys, most great, some not so good. This is the first game that is so bad and does not come close to being what it promises that I will ask for a refund.
MAN I am dissapointed. I loved the original, loved every Bitmap Brothers game. This is really ruining my memories. The guys behind this should be ashamed.

Basically I would have been more than pleased with just an enhanced version of the original game: take the same graphics (or just slightly enhanced), add an online multiplayer, add new teams, buyable players and fields, add game modes and options like duration (I've always been a bit frustrated by the duration of a match in multiplayer mode).
That said, I would even instantly buy a direct PC/Mac port of the Amiga version.
Between this and "Flashback HD", I've been more than disappointed with remakes of good old Amiga games this year... So far, only Eric Chahi with Another World has really understood what an enhanced version of an old game really means, without betraying the qualities of the original.
