I've been played games for more than 2 decades, but NEVER touched any original Speedball games ever (Well of what i remember.)
And i'm already having difficulty at the first match xD.
Seems like if you played the original, its gonna be a piece of cake. But for new players, it's hard (I'm surely just bad at the game TBH)
A friend played it and had no difficulty either. But he played the original .
You can win even in the original by abusing a bit the AI. This will allow you to win against much better teams. The first thing is that you should always use the multiplier if you can. The second is that you should learn to throw the ball onto incoming enemies. They will catch it and you can tackle them when they are doing it.
The main thing is that you should almost always tackle and throw the ball. You should try to not walk too much as it gives the opportunity to the enemy to tackle you. The most effective way to score is to throw the ball (curve the throw a bit after throwing if you can) then tackle the goal. If he catches the ball, you get an extra chance to score after the tackle.
If the enemy has too much def and you cannot tackle them, you can still win by using the electroball but it will be tough. Electroball is as well modified by the multiplier (at least in the original it does), when the multiplier is at 2, you can hit more people before it loses the electricity.
I usually play with the intent to KO most of the enemy team rather than playing for the goals and max ATK, POW and AGR on the mids and forwards.
Work on the game on Steam too?
Not too much "abuse", pretty much one of the most effective way to play IRL too.
Thanks for the tips !
I frequently used high-balls, with air-catches, or used high-balls, and waited for the opponent (be it a defender or a goalie) to catch the ball, and then slide-hit them to steal the ball, but in this Steam version I can't pull most of that.
The changes in the gameplay took a lot of the fun out of the game, IMO. Very disappointing.
The Speedball series, and Speedball 2 in particular, are a personal favourite. I have both games on Amiga, and I have Speedball 2 in numerous versions (PC DOS, GBA, Xbox 360, PS3 ...), and this is easily and by far (with no exaggeration) the one I less enjoy.
I really hope the developers bring the gameplay closer to the Amiga version with patches.
