The problems with Speedball 2 HD are many. Your teams starting skills are too high, which means even Steel Fury are far too easy to rinse. You get a defined amount of money after each match, whereas part of the original challenge was to balance winning with collecting enough coins in-game to build a successful team. Do youi go for goal or pick up that coin in the corner of the arena before the opposition do? Choices, choices! Transfers were not available after every match or only a selection of one or two players were available for transfer, which meant there was greater strategy involved in building a strong enough team to challenge for promotion. There's no knockout challenge (which I really miss). It's far too easy to knock-out opposition players. And the AI is criminally stupid. In the original game the computer opposition were evil gits that made you suffer, by annihilating you around the score multiplyer and using the electro-bounce to spank you while your trousers were down (they were also unrelentingly fast - the HD version never reaches the manic pace of the original). In Speedball HD the AI rarley target the score multiplier, which is just another reason why these mega scorelines exist.
I'm glad new gamers are enjoying Speedball 2 HD - the main components of the original are there, but for experienced clowns like me it's just a tad disappointing that it does not replicate the magic of Brutal Deluxe.
I realised all you have to do to win the 2 leagues is only upgrade your center forward, tackle at kickoff and then run at the goalkeeper, shoot as he dives.. goal everytime guranteed.
This doesn't work for the intergalactic cup, but its beyond boring playing through the league games every season just to get to the cup.
I think its all in how you upgrade your team.
Agree. The leveling up is the most important aspect.
I have played some 5 star teams in intergaltic cup and if you are still 3 star you are seriously in trouble as the game seems to play. Also clownfoots description of the AI and using bumpers and charge balls seems to jump with these teams. I hope they get tougher in the champsionship League.
