FF16 occasional crashes during fast travel
Curious if there is a fix to this.

It does not happen always, but it is frequent enough.

The game will crash, but only during fast traveling. I will pick a location, click on it, and the game either freezes (causing me to close it) or crashes to Desktop. It will also occasionally crash after a long cutscene(s) is over and it transitions you to some location. But that is basically fast traveling as that the game is loading a new location you are going.

My instinct is that it has something to do with virtual ram as that sometimes it will crash and the event viewer will say that it ran out of virtual ram.

Is there a fix to this?

My specs are a 3080, 12700k, 32 GB DDR5, 8 TB NVME SSD. 4k on med settings.

Thanks

My guess would be out of VRAM causing problems. The game uses over 10GB at 1080p.
I’ve seen close to 16GB at 4K with upscaling what usually lowers VRAM requirement.

Lowering resolution is the quickest fix.
10GB memory on a high end GPU was a ridiculous move by NVIDIA. Way less vram than on ps5 and even less that on their own, low end 3060 12GB.

Interesting.
I thought the same thing. However, when ever I monitor my PC stats during gaming, it always shows VRAM at 9501. So is it not reporting it accurately? And even still, with 32GB DDR5 RAM, I would not suspect RAM would be the issue since RAM covers anything over the VRAM, does it not?

From my experience games seem to fillup VRAM in blocks. I was hit hard by VRAM limitations in The Last of Us when still had 0.5GB theoretically available.

Maybe try upscaled 1080p low or even 720p low and see of it affects crashing.

Any update on this? Did you fix it? Im having the same issue. I'm playing on my rog ally. It's playing smoothly in gameplay and cutscenea but crash on fast travel.

Not that I have been told. I stopped playing on my 3080 because it was so bad. Gonna pick it up again when I get the 5080. The only thing I can think of is a VRAM issue
Its a low vram problem, mostly affecting 8gb cards, but if you are playing at 4k on a 10GB 3080, I can see the same thing happening. Reduce your quality settings and just hold tight I have a link on my other computer in ways to save on vram. Worst comes to worst you might have to reduce resolution, but I would try everything else first. Oh and if you haven't, make sure every app but ff16 is closed as many use vram too. and turn hardware acceleration off on steam as that uses vram too. And make sure framegen is off, that uses vram too.

Also, if its not too much of an affront to your eyes, try using legacy scaling, while it doesn't report less vram allocation, it seems to help in situations like this.

EDIT: Ah, I see this is an old thread. Well hopefully the info will be helpful to somebody else.
